Workshop Objectives In this workshop we will examine and discuss the biblical mandate to exemplify LOVE as outlined in John 13:34-35, looking specifically at the 4 elements of the text:  The COMMAND  The CHALLENGE  The CONNECTION  The COMMITMENT 2

Focal Text: John 13:34-35 “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

Quiz Results: A  The TOUCH oriented person may be misunderstood

because all too often touch implies a sexual connotation, most touching however is non-sexual. Touch can comfort, show appreciation, show approval, give encouragement, be reassuring, give confidence, show empathy and many other emotions.

Reaching a Touch Oriented Person Actions and activities that will clearly indicate to this type of person that you care include:  Give a pat on the back, massage the shoulders, rub their feet  Wipe away a tear, put your arm around them  Giving a hug / kiss when greeting or departing  Holding hands while talking  Sitting close in public and private Give one or two examples of Jesus touching someone in need …

Quiz Results: B  The verbal oriented person loves the heart-to-heart talk.

This person enjoys visiting with people, on the phone or in person. A warm and sincere compliment would most often be preferred over a gift or even a warm hug. They may not be good listeners themselves, but enjoy relationships with people who are good active listeners.

Reaching a Verbally Oriented Person To demonstrate care and concern:  Practice active listening  Make phone calls often

Quiz Results: C  The task oriented person makes lists, establishes budgets,

and generally lives by an appointment book. This person has great expectations of themselves. Task oriented people can get carried away with “doing” and often try to do too many things. This can set them up for extreme stress and pressure.

Reaching a Task-Oriented Person To relate to the task oriented person:  Keep a clean house  Be thrifty with money  Have clothes, cleaned, ironed, folded or hung  Be dependable – on time  Work side-by-side on projects  Do something (can surprise with gifts) Give one or two examples of Jesus doing something to show care / concern …
