NEXT WEEK outgoing President KRIS CORRELL takes center stage when he gives his farewell address. He will recap his year as CEO of our club. In actuality, his duties for the year won’t quite be finished until the following week when he officially hands over the reins of the club to BOB GROVE at the installation dinner.
THE WEEK after Falls Day brings the annual Homecoming Pancake Breakfast. CHRIS PARKER will start the signup for this next week, and we need as many helpers as possible because we will be busy. Last year we served about 1600 people.
LAST WEEK we hosted the new teachers from the Olmsted Falls schools. We had a good turnout of Kiwanians with 31, and with all the guests, we numbered about 50 people in the room. JIM LLOYD, Superintendent of Schools, served as host and introduced each school building’s principal, who in turn introduced their new staff members. We also had one other guest, Margie Karl, who is a prospective member for the club satellite. It turned out to be a good night for her to attend since she won the $28 prize in the 50/50 raffle. THE CAR SHOW on September 11 benefited from beautiful weather and was declared a success by FORREST FRANKLIN. He will give us details next week, but said that we should clear somewhere between $400-500. THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE for next year has planned an outing for Sunday evening, October 16. This is the Haunted Halloween Tour of the Mansfield Reformatory. Cost is $30 per person. Plans are for carpooling from the German Club, leaving no later than 4:35. For more info, contact LEE FENRICH, who is coordinating the signup.
THE ANNUAL CLAMBAKE will take place on Friday, September 30, at the German Club pavilion. If the clams cooperate by opening on time, dinner will be at 7 PM. A social hour will precede the meal starting about 6. The cost is the same as last year: $23 per bake, which includes a dozen clams, half chicken, corn, sweet potato, roll, chowder for an appetizer, dessert cake, and beverages. Extra clams are $5 per dozen. If you wish a meal with chicken but no clams, the cost is $18. Make checks out to DICK TERLEP. He needs the money by September 27. DUES NOTICES have been distributed by DAVE POHLMAN. Once again he encourages us to pay for the entire year in full up front. This makes for easier bookkeeping and also makes money available early in the administrative year when it is needed. Last year more than two-thirds of the club paid for the whole year all at once. FALLS DAY IN THE PARK will happen on Sunday, October 2, and we will be doing our usual donuts and cider thing, along with serving chili. A signup has begun looking for set up people at 11 AM and servers at noon. Volunteers to make chili are also requested. See BOB GROVE to sign up. Another regular feature of that day is our annual Lucky Duck drawing. Tickets were distributed to members at the meeting; call CHRIS GAEDE to get yours.
Most of the new teachers to Olmsted Falls schools enjoy dinner before being introduced to the club. Intermingled with them are school system administrators and members of our club.
THE FINANCE COMMITTEE will meet at the home of BOB MUSTEE on Thursday, September 22, at 7 PM to prepare next year’s budget.
THERE IS STILL TIME to sign up for the installation dinner on September 27 at the Irish-American Club. The cost will be $35 per person, but for club members $20 of that will be covered by the Monkey Fund. A cash bar will be available before and during. ATTENDANCE AWARDS: CHARLOTTE and RAY KOESEL (2 years), JOHN JACOBS (7), DAVE STEFANINI (11), CHRIS PARKER (11), LEE FENRICH (13), JOHN DASCOLI (20), JOHN SOMODI (20), and MIKE DEL PIZZO (31). NEW COMMITTEES: If you have not signed your name to any committee rosters for next year, please do so as soon as possible. BOB GROVE has asked that every member sign up for three committees. The new rosters will be printed on the back of the bulletin. QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house. So I have spent almost all the daylight hours in the open air.” – Nathaniel Hawthorne * * * WEEKLY OPPORTUNITY ROSTER * * *
