TO PACIFIC CREST TRAIL IN WALKER PASS VIA KERN TRANSIT:
THE PACIFIC CFROM REST TRAIL BAKERSFIELD Hikers can now easily reach two points of the Pacific Crest Trail from Bakersfield’s Amtrak station, thanks to Kern Transit. The county-operated transit service stops upon request at both the Walker Pass and Tehachapi access points on trips to and from Bakersfield. Buses stop at the Bakersfield Amtrak station, 601 Truxtun Avenue, directly outside the west-facing lobby doors, next to the large granite globe sculpture.
From Bakersfield take Route 150 (Bakersfield-Lake Isabella) to Lake Isabella, then connect to Route 227 (Lake-Isabella-Ridgecrest). Note: Route 227 runs only Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You must request the driver stop at Walker Pass.
The Tehachapi access to the Pacific Crest Trail is at Cameron Canyon Road (exit 159 from Highway 58), served by Kern Transit Route 100 (Bakersfield-Lancaster). Hikers will need to request the bus driver stop at the Cameron Canyon Road exit. The Walker Pass access point is reached by Kern Transit Route 150 (Bakersfield-Lake Isabella) and then connecting in Lake Isabella to Kern Transit Route 227 (Lake Isabella-Ridgecrest), which operates only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Hikers will need to request the bus driver stop at Walker Pass. Visit Bakersfield is just steps away from the Bakersfield Amtrak station and welcomes hikers heading to, and stepping off, the Pacific Crest Trail with information about Bakersfield.
