The problem with Templates/WAR Pages PowerReviews Write-a-Review (WAR) Templates

Below you will find two examples of write-a-review templates, one is complete the other incomplete.

COMPLETE-PROPER WAR Template

INCOMPLETE WAR Template – pieces missing.

These two examples demonstrate what the WAR (Write-a-review) template should look like and what it could look like if data is not being sent properly to PowerReviews. This document is a reference guide to help trouble shoot problems if you are missing one or more component from the WAR template. The explanation will begin from the top and work down to the bottom.

1. The “Rate and review…..” section of the page:

This is provided on all WAR templates and can be modified (can this be modified?) through consumer localization modification. It will require an integration engineer if you are in the process of integration. Or if you are currently live, a support ticket is required and a support engineer will make the changes. 2. The Product Information Box:

There are four (4) components on this section. The Image, Product Name, Brand, and Description. These components are pulled from product data the merchant provides to PowerReviews. If all these items are not present, it is likely that PowerReviews is not receiving the product information for this item. If some, but not all items are missing, then it means that some items are missing from this product data when provided. Many times a brand name or an image is missing. The brand is sent as text in the product info sent to PowerReviews, while the image is the result of a URL provide to the image. If the image is missing, either the URL was not sent or is not reachable. To confirm that you are sending PowerReviews this data you can use the “Validate Product Lookup” (VPL) function in the PowerReveiws Dashboard via Configuration>Validate Product Lookup. (see later in the document). 3. The next section you see on the complete form is an optional information box, and can be customized. (can it be customized?) 4. The next section is the PowerReviews Product Template. This template can be re-arranged in different ways via CSS. For example, items can be hidden, moved, colors changed, but the actual text may not be altered. The following are required components:

Review Headline Star Rating Product comments Nickname Location

Depending on the product being reviewed, there may be size and fit questions ,a slide-rule should appear. If you feel size and fit questions should be asked for the product refer to the Validate Product look up to confirm you are sending the appropriate information to PowerReviews. If you are sending the proper classification to PowerReviews submit a ticket and they will re-map. MISSING TAGS: If a product is not mapped or if the product does not show up in the product information provided to PowerReviews, the review form may have not tags as below:

Versus a tag area with pre-defined tags:

The source of this problem, may also be identified using the Validate Product Lookup, to be discussed in the next section.

Next the document will discuss the VPL and how it can be used. Validate Product Lookup (VPL) Tool

This is an invaluable tool for troubleshooting data problems. The tool is available in the dashboard under Configuration>Validate Product Lookup.

The following will then be shown:

A key thing to notice here is the “XML Lookup URL” – this is where PowerReviews pulls the product information. If this URL is BLANK, then you are likely dealing with a MasterMerchant (A Merchant Group that has multiple merchant sites assigned to it – you will need to select the appropriate merchant from the drop down menu in the top right section of the VPL screen.

The URL will likely say it points to services.powerreviews.com as below:

This indicates that the merchant is sending a product feed file to PowerReviews and we host the lookup internally. Some legacy accounts used to utilize a WebServiceLookup – where we would pull the data from their services and the URL would point to a location on their site. This has been somewhat problematic, so PowerReviews is in the process of deprecating this ability. However – we still have many clients using this functionality, and for the purpose of this document – there are very few differences in how it works. To look up valid data – select a PageID of what you know to be a valid product. Here – we will use 25510949 as the page ID – see below:

Then click the Test XML and you will see what Product Data is returned in XML format:

At the top - you will see the product name, Product URL, Description, Image URL, In-stock and Price. Item in RED are those that do not meet PowerReviews data quality standards and may affect how the WAR page is displayed. At the bottom, you can also see the XML that is returned from the look-up script. This is a Good indicator that the Look-up is working properly and that the primary data needed is there, but if an item like the template tags are missing, then one would know to research the category hierarchy and the template mapping. When a product lookup fails, here are a couple of the displays that can happen:

Or in the case below – the WSL provided by the merchant is not responding correctly. This is determined by the 404 error that was returned from the look-up:
