EMPOWERING PEOPLE TO LIVE HEALTHY, SAFE, AND CONTRIBUTING LIVES. WE MEET PEOPLE IN THEIR CRISIS, HELP THEM ACHIEVE STABILITY, AND MOVE THEM ON TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY.
FCS MEETS PEOPLE IN THEIR CRISIS THROUGH PROGRAMS IN AND AROUND THE CITY OF CHICAGO. • Well-Being Checks to seniors are provided by FCS 7 days a week. When a Chicago resident is concerned for a neighbor they call 311. The city then contacts Family & Community Services to check on the senior, providing emergency assistance as needed. • Intensive Case & Advocacy Support is provided by FCS to surround the senior in crisis with resources to move to stabilization. A case worker spends time with the senior to understand their needs and to surround the senior with community resources. FCS also provides support to seniors who have been evicted or are otherwise unable to find viable housing.
FCS HELPS PEOPLE ACHIEVE STABILITY AFTER A CRISIS. • Stop-It: Initiative Against Human Trafficking provides client-centered, trauma-informed and holistic services to trafficked persons. Stop-It is known across the country for its outreach efforts and training on human trafficking, whether it is labor, sexual exploitation or domestic servitude. They have a 24 hour hotline that receives calls from individuals wanting to escape their trafficking situations. Working with law enforcement and medical professionals, Stop-It workers help victims become survivors. • In-Home Support Services provides respite and chore services to seniors and people with disabilities around Chicagoland. Whether it is giving a caregiver a break or to help keep a home safe and clean, In-Home Support cares for those who need extra help caring for themselves or their loved ones. • At-Risk Youth intervention is based in Englewood, a Chicago neighborhood besieged by violence and lack of resources. Counseling is offered to youth in danger of academic failure or when a threat of harm to self or others exists. An achievable action plan and support system help them not just survive but thrive. Youth are given a voice through the Girls’ Journal Club or the Boys’ Book Club, providing stability in an unstable neighborhood and moving them toward self-sufficiency. • Partner Abuse Intervention Program strives to have participants explore and understand their cultural, familial and/or societal beliefs and how those beliefs have supported their use of abusive and controlling behaviors in intimate relationships. The primary goal of Partner Abuse Intervention program is safety for victims of domestic violence and their children. • Two Are Better Than One mobilizes churches and other volunteers to engage vulnerable and isolated seniors. Two Are Better Than One fosters community to empower seniors to live healthy, safe and contributing lives. The aim is to allow seniors to live in their own homes as long as possible and to provide them a way to give back to their community.
FCS MOVES PEOPLE ON TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY BY UTILIZING THEIR OWN STRENGTHS TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS. • Ways to Work provides low-to-moderate income families with financial literacy education, case management and a small, lowinterest loan to purchase a car, which helps maintain employment and improve their credit. Ways to Work provides the spring board for families to get off assistance, create more opportunities for themselves and their families, and to give back in meaningful ways. • Family Bridges provides relational wellness skills training to Corps, TSA Centers (ARC or Harbor Lights) and other community groups. Having worked with men and women at the tail end of their addiction rehabilitation, FCS gives unique insight into navigating the reentry to their families. They are prepared to step back into life with skills to meet the need. • Counseling for caregivers, individuals, couples and families gives practical help to improving and navigating interpersonal issues. From crisis and trauma to marriage and family, FCS works to bring stability and self-sufficiency to people struggling to succeed in life.
