The Summer Reading ChallengeGreat for Dyslexic Readers! “I’m dyslexic - is the Summer Reading Challenge really for me? Yes, the Summer Reading Challenge is for everyone. It’s for those who like long novels and those who prefer a quick read. It’s for those who like stories and those who prefer information books. It’s all about choice. You choose the six books you want to borrow and read from your library. You can read joke books, poetry books and non-fiction – they all count just as much as stories and novels. To complete the Challenge and receive your certificate, just read your six books and tell the library staff about them and whether you liked them. Remember –you won’t ever be asked to read out loud and there is absolutely NO reading test!
Top tips for enjoying the Summer Reading Challenge if you are a dyslexic reader 1.
Choose books of your own choice- any length, any sort – joke books, non-fiction, poems and rhymes – they all count, too! 2. Choose audio books 3. Choose graphic novels 4. Choose e-books 5. Choose large-print books 6. Choose books from the Dive In guide or books published by Barrington Stoke 7. Re-read old favourites (even if you wouldn’t want to be seen reading them at school!) 8. Choose books to read to your younger brother or sister 9. Read at your own pace – you have all summer to read your six books 10.
