THE TAKE OFF

Treatment by Bennett Johnson

THE CONCEPT This concept touches on the point in all our lives where we are faced with a very real feeling of fear – are we going to fight or make flight? The first hill makes a child feel like it’s the first time they’ve ever ridden a bike; Equally, the first drive in a new Ford makes you feel like it’s the first time you’ve ever driven a car. When the challenge is accepted and decision is made, a rush of adrenaline electrifies the body. The feeling of the unknown and taking on something new brings you completely into the moment, making you feel more alive than ever before. This is the feeling that I will look to accentuate in this film. The heightened awareness and overwhelming feeling of accomplishment when a challenge is accepted and overcome.

THE SHOTLIST A boy or girl looks down the hill. It looks perilously steep and a series of shots sweep down the path hinting at the challenge to come.

The boy/girl looks a bit scared but determined.

THE SHOTLIST The boy/girl spins a peddle and tests a break.

and he/she then pushes off down the slope.

THE SHOTLIST The wheels start turning and bike picks up speed.

As the biker reaches terminal velocity the image starts to cut to quick inserts of the car.

THE SHOTLIST We see the scenery of the two scenes now cutting together as the path becomes the road.

The face of the boy/girl cuts together to an image of their older self. They are still the same person but the feeling has brought them back to when they were a child.
