Narrator: There once was a young woman named Mary who was preparing to be married to a carpenter called Joseph. Narrator: They lived together in Nazareth, in Galilee. Narrator: One day Mary was visited by an Angel who appeared before her in beautiful robes. Angel Gabriel: Do not be afraid, Mary. You have been chosen to have a special baby. Mary: A special baby? Angel Gabriel: The baby will be God’s son and you must name him Jesus.

Narrator: Soon after, Mary and Joseph were married and expecting the arrival of a new baby. Narrator: King Herod gave orders for them to travel home. Messenger: The Emperor orders you to return to your birthplace and pay tax. Narrator: Joseph had been born in Bethlehem so they had to return. Narrator: It was a long and dangerous journey and Mary rode on a Donkey, even though she was with child. Mary: Is it far Joseph? I am growing weary. Joseph: Not far to go now, my love.

Narrator: Mary and Joseph were very grateful to the donkey that helped them on their long and dangerous journey. Narrator: When they arrived in Bethlehem they searched for a place to stay. Narrator: Mary was tired and in need of rest. Narrator: Every inn they visited was full and every innkeeper said there was no room. Joseph: Please, sir, we need a place to stay. Mary: I am going to have a baby and I am growing tired. Innkeeper: I’m sorry, I would like to help you but there is no room at this inn.
They move to the next innkeeper.

Joseph: We would be very grateful for the shelter and the rest. Innkeeper: Then come with me. Narrator: Mary and Joseph were shown to the stable where they would spend the night in the company of the animals.

Narrator: That night Mary had a beautiful baby boy in the stable among the animals. Narrator: She wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger with hay for warmth. Narrator: Shepherds who were tending to their sheep saw a bright light in the sky and were frightened. Narrator: An angel visited them and spoke to them. Angel: Don’t be frightened. Follow the star and you will find Jesus, the New Born King. Shepherd: The New Born King? Angel: He will be the Saviour of the World. Shepherd: We must follow that star. Angel: You will see a baby lying in a manger. Shepherd: Thank you, Angel.

I will bring Frankincense. Wise man: I will bring Gold. Wise man: And I will bring Myrrh. Narrator: They travelled through the night, following the bright star the whole way.
