[email protected] Sewing Skills: Advanced Beginner Basic Sewing Kit: Including Sewing Machine, Open Toe Foot (you will be doing foundation stitching – this allows for a clear view of your stitching lines; seam ripper, small snips, needles, scissors, rotary cutter, mat and ruler, pins, pin cushion. Please note – You will have homework between class 1 and class 2. In this class each student will make ONE 18” diameter Tuffet. A FINISHING KIT of upholstery foam, sanded and drilled plywood round, tee-nuts, 2 ½” button form, gathering cord, button securing cords, 1 yard of upholstery batting plus four bun feet will be available for purchase in the first class for an $90.00 fee, plus tax. Tuffet Source “Fusible Pattern with Instructions” (available at Thimble Pleasures) 1 yard muslin, low thread count works best Before the first class – fuse the pattern foundations onto the muslin Before the first class – cut sixty-four (64) 2” by 20” strips of fabric. If you want to coordinate your fabrics like the sample shown above, you will need eight (8) - ¼ yard cuts of fabric. Or, you might want to use a Bali Pop or Moda Jelly Roll for your tuffet and the cutting will already be done. If you choose a Bali Pop or Moda Jelly Roll you need to purchase only ONE. Each strip is 42-44” long and will be cut to make two (2) strips 21-22” long. It is NOT necessary to trim these 2 ½” strips to 2”. Sewing Machine in good working order with a zigzag stitch. Please check your machine manual beforehand and review how to increase the width and length of your machine’s zigzag stitch. Always bring your sewing machine manual to class. Thread that coordinates with most of your fabric Straight Pins, Best Press, Fabric Glue Stick Rotary cutter with a sharp blade and mat Add-A-Quarter Ruler – 12” works best

6” square of coordinating fabric to cover the button; if in doubt bring multiples to audition. 18” square of coordinating fabric for the bottom of the tuffet.
