Dear Parents, Welcome back to another school year! I am looking forward to this new year and am excited about teaching Social Studies to your children. In order to have a productive and successful year in Social Studies, please make sure your child has brought in their supplies (please see below by grade). All materials will remain in my classroom for use during our classes, however I plan on sending student's notebooks home periodically for you to view their classwork. Please help reinforce with your child the importance of returning these materials as it will impact their classwork on the next class that we meet. Below is a quick overview of the units of study we will be covering this year. More information about Social Studies will be discussed during Meet the Teacher Night on September 22nd. I look forward to seeing you then!
Third Grade
Supplies Needed: 1 black and white marble (composition) notebook (wide or college ruled whichever is best for your child) 1 green folder (plastic) Supplies Requested: 1 hand soap, 2 boxes of tissues Third grade social studies curriculum topics for the year include: an introduction to world geography and map skills; in depth study of the following world communities: Nigeria, Egypt, China, and Peru. We will be focusing on each community's culture, history, geography, people, and government.
Fourth Grade
Supplies Needed: 1 black and white marble (composition) notebook (wide or college ruled whichever is best for your child) 1 blue folder (plastic) Sup[plies Requested: 1 canister of Clorox wipes, 1 pack of construction paper Fourth grade social studies curriculum topics for the year include: the geography of New York State, Native Americans: First Inhabitants of New York State, Colonial and Revolutionary Periods, Freedom and the New Nation: Federal, State, and Local Government, and Making the Empire State: Immigration, Industrialization, and Westward Movement
Fifth Grade
