Third Grade: Honorable Mention

On day, on April 26, Nathaniel Aikman had his birthday! When he got home from school, he found an unusual gift in his backpack. It was a science fair ticket! Nathaniel was a HUGE fan of science! He had heard about the science fair before from his older realitives. But now it was his turn! But the science fair was in two days, so he had to hurry! It took Nathaniel a day and a half to build it. But he finally finished it! “It’s finally done.” he said.

He called his machine “Arm to Finger.” Nathaniel loved his invention. Now he just had to hope it would work. Finally, it was time for the science fair. When it was his turn, he said “This is how it works! When you stick your hand inside, each of your fingers is an arm. So you can pick up five things at once!” “Can you show us?” asked the teacher. “Sure!” Nathaniel said. Suddently, it broke down. “I’m sorry!” said Nathaniel. The teacher just moved on. He had FAILED! He was so upset that when he got home, he threw it away. Well three months later, Nathaniel got a call. He was told that five kids were hanging on the edge of a cliff. “You have to help them!” whoever was on the phone said. He looked at his invention. “I can do this!” he said.

As soon as Nathaniel got over to the cliff, he reached out to grab them with his machine. “Grab on, each one to one arm!” “But you failed last time!” said one. “Trust me!” he said. After all of them had grabbed on, he pulled all five of them off the edge of the cliff! “We are safe!” they all yelled. “Thank you Nathaniel, you really are a saver!” “Well he built it so he’s an Engineer Saver!” So that name stuck. Instead of Nathaniel, he was called the Engineer Saver and he lived to become a great engineer!
