THE APOSTLES’ CREED: I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the Communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting, Amen. This is our Faith; This is the Faith of the Church. We are proud to profess it in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen

Thought for the week: In Luke’s gospel today Jesus can, at first reading, appear rather harsh and uncaring. The gospel writer’s task in these verses is to emphasise Jesus’ call to discipleship – a call to follow Him and put Him first in our lives. The first incident in the Samaritan village isn’t to reveal Jesus’ annoyance and rebuke of this marginalized sect but rather to show that we, like Jesus and his disciples, need to be journeying together towards God – symbolized by Jerusalem; the place where God lives among men. The second incident reveals that we must go wherever He leads us and the third that we go when he dictates – not in our own time. It is our duty is to witness to Christ above all else. The Church exists in order to evangelise. We are the Church and we need to embrace this command of Christ fully. The final incident reveals that we must put God first. As the Psalmist says: “I keep the Lord ever in my sight.” St Paul tells us that if we are guided by the Spirit we will keep the Lord first in our lives and this will mean that we will serve Him in each other in works of love and keep the great commandment – love of God and love of neighbour. Like Elisha in the first reading we need to follow without question and allow the Spirit to lead us in all things to the glory of God the Father. This is what Jesus asks of us as disciples.

Can anyone help? 3) Coming soon................ A Metal collecting session when you can get rid of all that tat stuff cluttering up your home. We will have a skip and the agency will pay us full value for the weighed metal. Good idea? More news soon! Fr,Sandy: PERSONAL REQUEST: In about 10 days thanks to some generous folk, it is going to be possible to move a substantial amount of my belongings to Aston Hall. But that is only part of the story! A lot of sorting and skipping will still remain to be worked on! I m sure that many of you will have had the same experience! I am looking for some generous help to bring this about! So far, I think that I have disposed of over half of my belongings. What remains is not so straightforward. Please be in touch with me and/or Sue! By the end of July, I would want to have most of it achieved, with your help.! DIOCESAN NEWS: It is time for priests to be moved around and this is happening. In Wolverhampton, the large parishes of St Peter & Paul and St. Michael are being united under one priest & there is a chapel of ease in involved too. Near home, Meir, Caverswall and Caswell are to be run by a Polish Order, the Order of St. Paul the Hermit. Two priests will believing there, though obviously they will have other work. It is good that at last we are having Ordinations among our own. Keep Simon Baker (for Kings Heath) Chris ( for Banbury) and Tomas (for Acocks Green) will be ordained on 16th July. Keep them in your prayers.

POPE FRANCIS: On Wednesday, in St. Peter’s Square, the Holy Father continued his catechesis for the Holy Year of Mercy, turning to Jesus’ healing of the leper (Lk 5:12-14).Francis recalled that at Jesus’ time, lepers were considered unclean and bound by law to avoid contact with others. Saint Luke tells of one leper, moved by faith, who did not fear to pass among the crowds and beg Jesus to cleanse him. "All that this man does and says, [this man] who was considered impure, is an expression of his faith!” noting he recognizes the power of Jesus, certain of His power to cure him.“ The leper’s supplication shows that when we present ourselves to Jesus, long speeches are not necessary. A few words suffice, though accompanied by full confidence in His omnipotence and in His goodness. In fact, to entrust ourselves to the will of God means to submit to His infinite mercy.” The Pope then departed from his text, saying he wanted to share something personal with those present. “In the evening, before going to bed, I pray this brief prayer: ‘Lord, if you will, you can cleanse me!’ And I pray five ‘Our Fathers,’ one for each wound of Jesus, because Jesus has purified us with His wounds.”“But if I do this, you can also do it at home,” Francis encouraged, telling them to say: ‘Lord, if you will, you can cleanse me!’ As one does this, Francis said, “Think of Jesus’ wounds and say an Our Father for each one of them, for Jesus always listens to us.”The Pope, who has never shied away from gestures toward “the excluded,” recalled how Jesus stretched His hand and even touched this leper, rejected by society.“How many times we meet a poor man who comes to us?!” Francis asked, “We can even be generous, we can have compassion, but usually we do not touch him. We offer him money, we throw it there, but we avoid touching his hand.”When we keep this distance, the Holy Father underscored, we forget that that person is part of the Body of Christ, for Jesus taught us to not be afraid to touch the poor and excluded.“To touch a poor man can purify us of hypocrisy and render us concerned for his condition. Touch the excluded,” Francis said, reminding those gathered of the refugees with him on the stage. Before concluding, the Holy Father urged those present to every night kneel before God and pray: “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean!”“And do it, do it every evening before going to bed. And now we say together this beautiful prayer: ‘Lord, if you will, you can make me clean!’” Pope Francis said. SPONSORED WALK:On a dull but warm Sunday morning, seven parishioners from St Giles and St Thomas' went on a 10 mile sponsored walk from Sandon to Stone and back.Setting off along the Trent and Mersey canal, we visited the small church of St Rufin in the pretty village of Burston. Crossing the river Trent we walked through a nature reserve full of red poppies and other wild flowers. At Aston Hall we were able to enter the chapel through the Holy Door where Piers led us in the prayers of the day. Once in Stone we had lunch by the canal , then called at St Mary's Home to visit Alban Burton, one of the founder members of our walking club. On the way back to Sandon it started to rain, but with the end in sight it didn't matter! Along the way, we learned something of the history of Stone and Aston Hall and the saints associated with the area - Ss. Chad, Werburgh, Wulfad, Rufin, St Charles of Mount Argus, Bl Dominic Barberi. Many thanks for your generous support and sponsorship money already received. We hope to collect the remaining promised sponsorship very shortly. THE PIETY STALL will be open on 3rd July for Holy Communion. Also jam will be on sale on 2nd/ 3rd July. CHURCHES TOGETHER: BIBLE STUDY: There are two homes in Cheadle offering ecumenical group bible study once a fortnight. If you are interested and would like more information contact Mary & Derek Blunt on 757464. Previous experience of bible study is not necessary. ST GILES' CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL is celebrating a Mass of thanksgiving with Bishop David McGough to mark the retirement of Father Sandy Brown and to thank him for his ministry and support to the school. This will take place on Wednesday 13th July 1:30pm followed by light refreshments in the school hall. Please come along to help us mark this occasion. AT CHEADLE: The school carpark is likely to be out of action for all for the first part of the school holidays. The school gates, which were thought to be state of he art have turned out to be far from it and there may be a need to dig deep to discover the root of the problem. We shall keep you posted. LOOKING AHEAD As far as I can see, I shall be moving out on or around 8th August, allowing Fr. Eric and his family to get settled before the start of term.
