BOARD OF DIRECTORS MANDI RENSHAW, PROGRAM ANALYST I PUBLIC OUTREACH REPORT FOR JUNE 2016 INFORMATIONAL
ISSUE: SolTrans’ focus is to identify opportunities for public outreach through strategic partnerships, and to establish public outreach programs and activities that are valued by the community. DISCUSSION: Since the last Board meeting, Staff has continued to develop procedures for promotions, and build relationships with community organizations.
SolTrans hosted a booth at the 2016 Vallejo Pista sa Nayon where we introduced our new prize wheel, giving out 400 promotional items, including 50 adult day passes.
SolTrans hosted a booth at Vallejo’s 28th Annual Juneteenth Celebration. We again used our new prize wheel and gave out 400 promotional items, including 50 adult day passes. This year’s theme was "Passport to Freedom" and the vendors focused on connecting people with resources that will give them the freedom to live healthy and prosper. SolTrans donated two 31-Day Local Passes to be raffled off to individuals who submitted their “Passport to Freedom” card.
SolTrans participated in the Benicia Torchlight Parade on July 3rd, with a decorated Gillig bus. NEXT and SolTrans staff walked in the parade passing out the new SolTrans coloring book.
SolTrans participated in Vallejo’s 4th of July Parade. Both SolTrans Staff and NEXT staff walked along the parade route with the decorated bus passing out SolTrans coloring books and Vallejo Waterfront Weekend fliers.
SolTrans hosted a booth at Vallejo Outreach on July 16th and passed out 150 backpacks to children attending the event, which supports school readiness. We also promoted our routes that support the schools within Vallejo.
On June 13th SolTrans launched their Summer Slice promotion, cutting youth fares for the summer to $1 for a day pass and $15 for a 31-day pass, which is more than a 50% discount. Last summer, 96 monthly passes were purchased and this year, we have already sold 125. The promotion ends August 31st.
June 16th marked the 11th annual National Dump the Pump day, encouraging riders to move from single occupancy vehicles to public transit. SolTrans allowed all local riders to ride free for the whole day. A total of 2,104 riders took advantage of the promotion.
On June 20th, SolTrans released the MyRide campaign to the public, allowing the public to utilize our Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) program to get real time information about buses and assistance planning their trip via the SolTrans website. MyStop Mobil App, and texting service will be released later this summer.
Planned Outreach:
SolTrans will host Back-to-School Transit Fairs in both Benicia and Vallejo. The Vallejo Fair will be held on August 11th at the Vallejo Transit Center from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm and the Benicia Fair will be held August 18th at the Benicia Public Library from 1:30pm to 3:00pm, where Staff will be on hand to help plan school trips via public transportation and give away SolTrans Youth Day Passes.
Service improvements to the Route 20 and 80 will take place August 21st, 2016. Staff is hosting a tabling event at the Benicia Farmers Market August 18th from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm to promote the new Route 20. We are also reaching out to Benicia Housing Authority and Rancho Benicia to hold an onsite outreach event, details to come at a later date.
FISCAL IMPACT: The cost of promotional materials and support for community outreach is constrained by the FY 2015-16 budget. PERFORMANCE GOAL: Goal 3 – Enhance customer satisfaction and build community support for public transportation; Objective D – Establish a public outreach program that is valued by the community and result in strong, mutually beneficial partnerships.
