Welcome back to term 2. We hope you have had a lovely break and the children are well rested for the busy term we have ahead building up to Christmas. Our topic for this term is ‘What happens when I fall asleep?’ We will be thinking about bedtime routines, space, nocturnal animals and people who work at night (including Santa Claus). We will shortly be starting rehearsals for our Christmas production (dates and more information to follow shortly).
Communication, Language and Literacy
Speaking, Listening, Understanding, Reading and Writing.
We will be sharing and discussing the events in stories related to our topic. We will be singing different lullabies and nursery rhymes. We will be continuing phase 2 letters and sounds, blending and segmenting cvc words. We will begin to form our letters using the cursive script. The children will also be practising writing their names. As a class we will be sharing our ideas and creating a bed time story. We will begin to share and read stories during guided reading.
Physical Development
Moving and Handling and Health and Self Care
We will be developing their fine and gross motor skills through a variety of activities in and out of the classroom such as write dance, handwriting progression and cutting. We will be practising bedtime routines through games and changing ourselves. We will be continuing PE with a focus on ball skills (throwing, catching, rolling and bouncing).

We will be attending celebration assembly where our weekly achievements will be shared by the school such as home achievements, class tokens and individual golden tickets. We will be focusing on the school values and how the children can use these to become Jedi Knights. We will be learning the rest of the learning powers and how we can use them to become better learners. We will be thinking about our responsibilities within the class and how we can fulfil these (looking after property, tidying up, register monitors). We will be continuing to have circle times based on the class needs.
Mathematics
Numbers and Shape, space and measure
We will be recapping 2D shapes and their properties and using them to make pictures. We will be introducing 3D shapes. We will sequencing events in a day including bedtime routines. We will begin to find one more and one less than a given number to 10. We will continue to count to 20.
Understanding the world
People and Communities, The world and Technology
We will be learning about different nocturnal animals. We will be looking at the importance of sleep for good health. We will be using ICT to create night time pictures.
Expressive arts and design
Exploring and using media and materials, Being imaginative
We will be using instruments to accompany lullabies. We will be creating art work based on our topic such as space pictures and dream catchers. We will be using the role-play and dressing up to creatively explore our topic. We will be creating Christmas themed artwork (Christmas cards, calendars and hoops).
Ideas to support with home learning
Regularly share stories with your child taking it in turns. Check ‘Love to Learn’ books for new wish tasks and add any ‘WOW’s’ you notice. Counting and recognising numbers and shapes in the local environment. Talk about bed time routines Talk about different nocturnal animals. Discuss space. Practise writing your child’s name with them.

We will be joining the rest of the school in Celebration assembly from next week. If your child has any certificates, medals or special achievements they would like to share please can they come in on a Thursday.
