WELCOME Sunday, September 24, 2017 Please visit www.ssecdurham.org for our announcements online. The next First Sunday Parish breakfast is October 1, 2017. Give to Episcopal Relief and Development’s Hurricane Relief Fund and help people recover. Visit www.episcopalrelief.org/what-you-can-do/give/donate-now/individual-donation. This fund supports affected communities in the Caribbean and the US devastated after hurricanes and tropical storms. Your donation will help meet urgent needs after Hurricane Irma and other storms by providing critical supplies such as food, water and other basics and offering long-term assistance as needed. You may also write a check to St. Stephen’s and please put “Hurricane Relief” on the memo line. Concert Today. At 4:00PM today, the brilliant 22 year old pianist, Alexander Beyer, will present a recital in the Nave. The program features two virtuosic works by Rachmaninoff, his Variations on a Theme of Corelli and his Second Piano Sonata. Rounding out the program will be two selections from The Art of Fugue by Bach and two Preludes and Fugues by Shostakovich (the serene one in C major and the wild one in D-flat major, which Alex calls “a real firecracker”). This is the first concert of the 20172018 season of the St. Stephen’s Concert Series. Tickets ($25, cash or check only) are available at the door with free admission for those 18 or under. A half hour Pre-Concert Discussion will take place in the Davis Room and a reception will follow the concert. An Acolyte Information Session will be held today, Sunday, September 24, directly following the 10:30 service in the Davis Room with Deacon Maggie Silton. All Acolytes and their parents are expected to attend. If you have any questions, contact Maggie at

Please join us for our upcoming Urban Ministries of Durham Outreach Day and help us provide food, shelter, and a future to our neighbors in need. We will serve lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 30. Please contact Debbie Breuer (

Kevin, our sexton, handles the set-up, and makes the coffee and lemonade. Church furnishes cups, paper plates, napkins, and the always-popular goldfish for the children. All you do is provide refreshments of your choice (they can be “baked” or “take out!”), serve them, stay to meet and greet…then help Kevin with the minimal clean up. Consider teaming up with another individual or family. This past year, two families signed up to celebrate the birthday of a family member…such a nice idea! Coffee Hour is a ministry well-received and so appreciated. If each of you signed up for just one Sunday, we could fill the calendar with dispatch and be done with it! The sign-up sheet, along with a sheet of instructions, is on a clipboard in the Narthex. Sally Bugg (
