This week’s sermon Two VERY Different Kinds of Wisdom James 3:13-18

Wisdom should be tested by examining its fruit.

The wisdom you attain will either lead you towards Christ or away from Him.

Wisdom from above always produces godly fruit.

Wisdom from above is gift that God generously gives to his children who ask for it with a pure heart.

Digging Deeper into the Message Wisdom is an important topic in the Bible. Read the following verses and then write what they teach about wisdom. Proverbs 1:7

Community Group ICEBREAKER: Who is someone you consider to be wise and why do you say they are wise? REFLECTION QUESTIONS: What would you say is the world’s view on the value of wisdom and how to attain it? Or why do you think people usually want wisdom? Does this conflict at all with godly wisdom and its purpose in our lives? Read James 3:13-18 According to verse 13, how should we recognize wisdom in another person? In this passage what is the fruit or results of wisdom that is not from God? Likewise, what is the fruit of wisdom from God? What does it mean that wisdom is peaceable, gentle, and open to reason? In what ways does wisdom lead to mercy and good fruits? Read James 1:5. What must we do to gain this kind of wisdom? What role do study and other intellectual efforts play in gaining wisdom from above?

APPLICATION QUESTIONS TO DISCUSS: What do you take away from James 3:13-18 that you need to apply to your life? How will you live out James 1:5? How can you integrate this verse into your study of God’s word?
