Dear Parents/Carers Welcome back and happy New Year. We are generally pleased with the way the children have returned following the Christmas holiday, although a few are taking a while to settle to the expectations of school again. This includes, not only class room behaviour, but also bringing book bags to school every day and completing homework when set. Our topic this half term is Bear, Bears, Bears including Paddington Bear and you may find Paddington visiting home with your child for a one night sleep over. We would be grateful if you could write a small diary entry into the book and if possible add a photograph of his adventure with your child. As usual the children will be taking part in PE lessons and I would ask that they have a warm outdoor track suit inside their kit bag for those occasions that they go outside for PE. Again make sure that this is fully named in a clear place to enable the children (and us) to try and keep the right kit in the right bag. Something we will be starting this half term is for you to change your child’s reading books. This will mean that you can change the books as often as you need to, rather than wait for the days that we have book changes timetabled. However, we do not want a child to read the book just once, as it takes at least three reads for a child to know the words and to understand what has happened in the story, which is crucial for their reading development. As a school we have also recently introduced an online reading programme. This enables us to programme books for your child’s individual learning development. We are able to allocate a number of books to each child along with learning activities to go alongside the book. Each child will be given a unique password and username. To be able to use this fully we need to know whether your child has access to a computer/tablet/smart phone and we would be grateful if you could complete the form overleaf to give us this information. We will be running 2 parent workshops before half term sharing the online Bug Club phonics programme with you. This will be led by Mrs Allen and Mrs Carr. Yours sincerely Year R Teachers
