On April 16, 2007 on the Virginia Tech campus, Erin Peterson became one of the victims of the worst college shooting in history. Hers was a life that ended too soon. As Erin’s parents, we would often tell her that she was very special and destined for greatness. No one knew that her destiny would include such tragedy. Erin was majoring in International Studies because she wanted to learn about other cultures, help the less fortunate around the world and be a force in bringing people together. She believed that a good education was the way to accomplish her goals. Erin gave voice to those who could not speak for themselves and an ear to those who had no one to hear them. She had a very easy nature about her that made everyone feel important and valued in her presences. What a sweet life, what a sweet legacy. Because Erin seemed to bless everyone she touched, her legacy inspires all who knew her to live their lives to the fullest. Through the Erin Peterson Fund, we will ensure that her commitment to achieving excellence through education, helping the victimized, and being true to one’s self never dies.
ERIN PETERSON FUND The Erin Peterson Fund (EPF) was formed May 9, 2007. Thousands of cards, gifts and monetary donations came to us from all over the United States. We were so honored and humbled that it became obvious that we should use this outpouring of love to set up a non-profit fund to keep Erin’s name and dreams alive. To date, the EPF has given away $160,000 in educational scholarships and grants. All grants have been awarded to Leadership for Tomorrow, a successful program for at-risk males at Westfield High School, Erin’s alma mater. As we enter this very difficult time in our economy the need to help support students financially and programs that provide hope has become even greater. The EPF is fully committed to our work of bringing smiles and joy into the lives of people everywhere. These unique awards were established to help ensure student success and to let them know we are interested and committed to their future. Over $100,000 has been raised since the first EPF tournament. We know that with your continued support and generosity we will exceed what was raised at last year’s tournament. Erin left a very clear foot print for us to follow.
