Ol’ Colony is a Jerry Pate designed 18-hole championship golf course with over 70 bunkers and 25 acres of lakes that come into play on several holes. The Bermuda grass fairways and greens are very well maintained. The 18-hole course opened in December 2000 on 597 acres that was once a farm plantation for a mental institution named Boy’s Colony. In 2008, Golf Digest ranked Ol’ Colony as one of the Top 100 “Best Places You Can Play” and recently a “Top 10 in Alabama Course”. /L #OLONY FEATURES DRIVABLE PAR S AND LONG PAR S 4HE PAR S ARE SOME OF THE MORE DEMANDING YOULL RUN ACROSS 4HREE play longer than 200 yards from the tips, and the fourth (the picturesque 17th) plays 186 yards and is protected on either side by sand and behind by a lake.
The ninth and 18th, which play along either side of a large lake, are fantastic finishing holes. The ninth (288 to 409 yards) is protected up the left side by the lake and three large fairway BUNKERS 4HE TH TO YARDS HAS THE WATER UP THE right side. The 18th green is a bit unusual with a valley running through the middle. The 10th is the best of the par-5s, playing 402 to 555 yards with a creek that runs up the left two-thirds of the hole, then splits the fairway and runs along the right side of the GREEN4HETHIRDTOYARDS ISANOTHERGOODPAR )T looks more narrow than it is from the tee, and a large tree on the left can cause problems with your second shot. The green is protected in front by two of the course’s 70-plus bunkers. With four sets of tees stretching to 7,097 yards from the tips, Ol’ Colony is challenging and a fair test.
