PIZZA PLEASE

Time to celebrate BUTLERS SPOKESPERSON THE truth about Butler’s is out. It’s celebrating its 24th anniversary in December, and the start of its 25th year in business. That’s coming up for a full quarter century next year. The celebration, says owner Robert Wilkinson, coincides with the 50th anniversary of Silwood School of Cookery, which is where the secret combination of herbs, sauce and fresh dough – that makes a Butler’s pizza so tasty – sprung into being. This is thanks to Robert’s grandmother, the late Lesley Faull, who started the cordon bleu cookery school in Rondebosch in 1964. Years later it would be home to Butler’s first kitchen and the launchpad to the firstever specialist pizza-delivery outlet in Rondebosch. The first Butler’s pizza was delivered on December 5, 1989 from Silwood. To celebrate this milestone, Robert is inviting all die-hard Butler’s fans to a 24th anniversary bash at the Truth Coffee headquarters on Thursday, December 5. Located at 36 Buitenkant Street in Cape Town, Truth draws on the “steampunk aesthetic” which translates into imagery of 19-century heavy industry. It ties in perfectly with Butler’s ethos of time-tested recipes and its whack of

good old-fashioned Butler-style courtesy and professional service. This will be a party fans won’t easily forget. Kickstarting at 6pm and due to run until 2am, it will offer an unbelievable line-up of entertainment. Not one to let the cat out of the bag, Robert says all will be revealed on the day. He did let on, however, that the party will run concurrently with “First Thursdays Cape Town” – an initiative that sees Cape Town’s central city come alive on the first Thursday of every month, as dozens of art galleries and stores keep their doors open until late. Come experience it for yourself and be the first to share in the news of how Butler’s will be expanding on its service offerings in surprising, refreshing and interesting ways next year.
