Lafourche Parish Title III 









 

Identifies the educational and language needs of the EL students based on their language proficiency. Helps educators set goals for improving the language Proficiency of all ELL students in the Parish. Helps to develop programs for each individual EL student in order to support/supplement mainstream instruction. Measures student progress through reporting, LEAP, iLEAP, ELPT, EOC Assist educators in developing academic accommodation plans to assist EL students in the mainstream classroom Promotes EL parental involvement through reading, math, study skills, homework and organizational workshops for students and parents.

What is Title III

Title III of “Every Student

Succeeds Act” provides: High-quality instruction in the English language domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Similarly, we strive to provide appropriate modifications and accommodations in the mainstream classrooms so that English Learners may develop the English language skills necessary to successfully achieve both academically in school and socially in the United States.

What can Title III do for my EL student? Title III provides these resources to EL students and their teachers:   

Imagine Learning (K-5) Rosetta Stone (6-12) Electronic Translators in Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Spanish Professional Development for Reg. Ed. teachers of EL students English/Spanish /Vietnamese Interpreter Language Proficiency Testing for new students Funds available for the purchase of classroom resources to aid EL students Word to Word Dictionaries Certified ESL teachers/ Paraprofessionals

How is my EL student identified?

(1) Enrollment  All students are enrolled at Lafourche Parish schools regardless of documentation or visa status (2) Home Language Survey  During enrollment, parents complete a home language survey in their native language indicating what languages are spoken by the student (3) Identification/Classification  Students are assessed using the Language Proficiency Model to determine their language abilities (4) Program Placement  Students are then placed in the appropriate programs to improve their language proficiency
