TLCCA May Update Firstly, my apologies the May general meeting minutes have been distributed late. The first seven weeks of Term 2 has been an extremely busy time for the TLCCA. In these short few weeks, we have: Held the Walkathon for Prep to year 6 students; Run a Mother’s Day Stall for the whole school; Run a special Second Hand Uniform sale; Hosted social competition Trivia Night ; Started preparation for the Fun Run and Foundation Dinner; Drafted changes to the TLCCA constitution to update procedures; As well as numerous administrative projects. Thank you to the families and community friends who have all helped make these events very successful and enjoyable. A full copy of the minutes of the May general meeting can be found on the TLC website. Under the Community tab, choose TLCCA and then scroll down to the previous meeting minutes section. This summary is more up to date, including final figures on our recent fundraising and review of our efforts outlined above.
Walkathon The Walkathon was held on a sunny, mild Autumn Monday morning. Perfect for taking a walk around the oval! Over 330 children, teachers, Mums, Dads and siblings walked for 45 minutes, cheered by families and supporters on the sidelines. A big thank you to our 30 volunteers who helped with jobs ranging from cutting fruit for the children to enjoy on the walk, setting up tents and tables, even a distance map plotting how far the children were walking. I believe in the end we were not far from Sydney! In total the Walkathon raised a very healthy profit of $6,792. To everyone who took the time to get sponsors, make donations, collect and return their Walkathon money, thank you!! A special thank you must go to our VP Fundraising member, Monique Perry, who put the event together in about 2 weeks. It was a big test for a new committee and Monique ensured it was a very successful event. The major prize of an iPad mini will be drawn this Friday; good luck to all! Please note if you are eligible for a prize and have not chosen anything yet, please let Monique Perry know your choice at
[email protected]. Mother’s Day Stall Mother’s Day is such a special time at TLC. I love that the kids get to choose a gift for Mum; it is always interesting to see their choices (some very left field!) and so heartwarming to know the kids really love Mum, despite the everyday dramas of get dressed, brush your teeth, do your homework.
This year we operated the Stall a little differently. It is a two-step process. Firstly, each child is asked to donate a gift of $5+ in value. I can tell you I was blown away by the generosity of the gifts donated and the idea was embraced by nearly the entire Primary school. The second step was that each child who donated a gift was eligible to purchase any gift donated and everything was $5. The TLCCA made sure that the gifts available were fairly consistent in quality; we did purchase a few extra items to make sure no one missed out. Everything from soaps, jewelry, chocolates, stationery, organisers, cookbooks, candles and more was carefully assessed by all the children and we hope you had a lovely surprise come Mother’s Day. The Stall was a great success and cleared $1050 in profit.
Second Hand Uniforms Sale If anything was going to confirm the need for a permanent second hand uniform shop at TLC it was the extraordinary response to the stall this week. We sold over $2,500 worth of stock. Given that the items are all half the price of new uniforms, this was an amazing result. We are looking to move the shop to an online format, where parents can purchase items from the school website. I understand that being second hand, parents will want to view the items however I can assure you that the items presented are of good quality and any items below that level may be offered at a further discounted rate. Sales such as this week where the items are brought out for display will continue at least twice a year as well. I must note that up till now, we have offered a 75% return on stock donated once it has been sold. Of the money raised in sales this week, the TLCCA retains $625. Maintaining the uniforms and organizing the stock for sale is an incredibly labour intensive job. Once we settle the returns from the current sale, we will be changing the returns to 50%-50% for donators and the TLCCA. I will be contacting all the parents who have donated items personally to discuss the changes. If you have items you wish to donate, we will be holding a donation week before the end of term, with the date to be advised. Social Event – Trivia Night I would like to make a special mention of the Trivia Night. This was my first Trivia Night and I was not sure what to expect or if I was going to be able to answer any questions! There were 20 teams and over 100 people attending, with 42 children looked after in college care during the night. Our team came 14th but lots of laughter, a few wines, happily cared for children and a little competition made for a great night out. The questions were fun and carefully crafted by Scott Johnston, with the social organization of the night coordinated by Fleur Scott. Thanks to all who attended and made the night special; I believe this is one of the reasons that the TLCCA is so important to our school and why we really have such a strong community spirit that flows down to our children. We encourage everyone to attend future TLCCA social events, particularly the premier annual event, the Foundation Dinner.
Social Event – Foundation Dinner A save the date was sent out to parents/carers for the Foundation Dinner on Saturday, August 24. The dinner is held at the North Lakes Golf Club. It is open to all parents and carers of children attending TLC; a night to celebrate our school in the company of friends – other parents, teachers and staff. We do acknowledge that at $80 per head, it is an expensive night for one or two people to attend. We are establishing a payment plan to help with management of costs. Further information about the dinner and payments will be sent out before the end of term.
Fun Run The Fun Run is the TLCCA’s major fundraiser for the year and has become a landmark annual event for the school. The growth and success of the event each year is due to the dedication of the founding organisers, Graham Quick and Scott Johnston. This year we are taking a break from holding a Fair on the same day and instead will focus on helping Graham and Scott enhance the program of the Fun Run and we look forward to sharing further information about that in the near future. In the meantime, Liz Mahon has kindly offered to organise the Fun Run Raffle again this year. Most of our families will know that Liz is a dedicated TLCCA member and has spent a lot of valuable time helping the school with all sorts of projects over the years. If you are able to donate a prize to the Raffle, please contact Liz at

May Meeting The full minutes of the meeting will be available to be viewed on the school website shortly, I would like to acknowledge the presence of local State MP, Reg Gulley at the last meeting. Mr Gulley is visiting parent and school associations in his electorate to listen to local needs and concerns. Mr Gulley is well acquainted with the Independent school system, having worked as a business manager in the Lutheran school system and as a member of his children’s school parent committee. He was most complimentary about the TLCCA at the end of the meeting. Please note that the TLCCA welcomes everyone to attend meetings. We look forward to seeing you at the next general meeting on Wednesday June 19 at 7pm in the Library.
