“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;” John 8:31
To Be Like Jesus Words of an old song explain discipleship like this: “To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus, on earth I long to be like Him. All through life’s journey from earth to glory, I only ask to be like Him.” Christian Discipleship means personal, fervent devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ. It means to be a devoted servant, motivated by love, and a desire to spread His gospel. John 13:15 “For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.” We are to be conformed to His image and likeness in all our ways; obeying His teachings, His commands and His authority; so that by our very lifestyle we appear as disciples of Christ. 2 Timothy 2:2 “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” A true disciple is one who embraces and assists in spreading the teachings of the One they follow. We are to be living epistles (letters), read of all men, and what they “read” must bring them to a deeper knowledge and understanding of who our Lord Jesus is and His will for their lives. John 13:35 “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” Jesus loved us so much that He laid down His life. By the same token, love will be the defining symbol of true discipleship; love for our families, love for our neighbors and friends, love for our brothers and sisters in the faith, and especially love for those not inside the ark of safety. The love of God must rule our hearts and direct our lives, making us true disciples of Jesus.
Family Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for your instruction and direction on how we may bring the Truth to others. We ask you to help us be true examples of Your Living Word so others might follow. In Jesus’ name!

Do you love your neighbor?
Family Activities
Get everyone to sit in a circle and have one person in the middle. The person in the middle walks up to someone and says "Do you love your neighbor?" They will then respond something like this:
Looking
Yes, except for the people who have brown hair or Yes, except for the people wearing red or Yes, except for (insert your own criteria here).
Inward
Everyone in the circle who matches that criteria then needs to get up and find a new seat whilst the person in the middle tries to steal (sit) in someone's seat. The person left standing becomes the new person in the middle. The other option is the person can respond "No", which means the two people on either side of them have to switch seats while the person in the middle tries to steal their seat. How about asking another family to join you in the week’s devotion? If there aren’t enough people present to play the game the way it’s presented, be sure to adapt the concept appropriately for your family unit.
Let’s talk! After playing Do you love your neighbor, have a discussion about loving your real life neighbor. Who is your neighbor? What does loving them look like? How can your family reach out to your neighbors? What obstacles might you encounter? Remember to consistently pray for them!
GAME PLAN
Looking
Every family needs a game plan for saving souls! This week focus on your neighborhood. Before reaching out to your neighbors come up with some dialog you might have with them, considering what their response might be. What encouragement could you give them to visit your church? Be prepared with tracts and church cards if they are not home when you visit.
