TO PAN A test object that allows the complex focal trough of the panoramic x-ray unit to be quantified. This allows full assessment of parameters affecting image quality. Can be used in film and digital systems. Allows: -
Quantification of the focal trough and image layer Accurate determination of the bite offset Quantification of the symmetry of the scan Measurement of the incident beams angles Simple visualisation of faults
TO UniDENT A novel step wedge test object that does not follow the conventional design of equal step thicknesses. TO UniDENT simulates the possible extremes of material to be imaged in an Adult Maxillary Molar, thereby testing the extremes of the detector’s response (i.e. at the dark and light ends). Any clinically-significant change should show up first at these film densities. Interpretation of the step wedge image is slightly different from conventional step wedges; it does not rely on comparison with a gold standard, but rather an observer’s decision on what steps can or cannot be seen in each individual image. The step wedge can be used with either conventional intra-oral film or with digital detector systems.
