Tolleson Union High School District STATEMENT OF AWARENESS You are responsible for understanding procedures regarding ATTENDANCE, STUDENT CONDUCT, CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS & TRANSPORTATION Attendance
I understand: Students attend Summer Academy Monday through Friday, from 7:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The typical Summer Academy student accomplishes the same amount of work in one day that would be completed in one week's time during the regular school year. Attendance is taken three (3) times daily; at the beginning of the day (7:15 a.m.), after the first break, and after the lunch break. If a student arrives after the first break, or is signed-out prior to the lunch break, it will be counted as an absence. Any combination of absences and or tardies that exceeds the allowed amount per session, will result in the withdrawal from class, and the student will receive NO credit for the course. Please refer to your program's attendance policy for more details and specific examples. THERE ARE NO EXCUSED ABSENCES IN SUMMER SCHOOL. Parents will be contacted when a student is absent or tardy via the school messaging system. Please make sure you provide accurate phone numbers where a parent/guardian can be contacted by phone or, e-mail, as every effort will be made to notify you when a student is absent or tardy.
Student Conduct
Students attending Summer Academy are expected to conform to the Tolleson Union High School District’s “Standards of Behavior” and “Dress Code”. All schools in the Tolleson Union High School District are drug free/gang free/tobacco free school zones. Immediate action will be taken towards anyone who violates this policy. In order to prevent disruption of the learning environment or educational process, possession or use of certain electronic devices are not allowed in the classroom. This includes, but is not limited to, all radios, IPods, CD players, and laser pointers. Students attending the Summer Academy are governed by the same rules and policies as the students enrolled in any of the TUHSD schools. These rules are specified in the District Student Handbook, which is distributed each year to all students. Students who do not normally attend a TUHSD school can access the handbook online at www.tuhsd.org.
Cancellations & Refunds (Excludes Title I Immersion Programs)
Refunds will not be made if a student is dropped from a class for attendance and/or disciplinary reasons. In addition, once the first session has begun, refunds will not be made if a student drops or withdraws from a class. Please make sure you review the Summer Academy calendar and plan accordingly. Refunds will only be granted if a class is cancelled by the site administrator.
Transportation
The Tolleson Union High School District offers transportation for students who reside within the District's boundaries however, it is not the same for all summer programs please refer to your summer program's specific information pertaining to transportation. Students should be at their pickup location at least 10 minutes prior to their scheduled pickup times to ensure that they do not miss the bus. If a student misses the bus, he/she will need to find transportation to school. Students who drive to school or to a bus stop must obey all traffic rules. Students must drive in a courteous manner. Any instance of dangerous or disrespectful driving will result in the loss of driving privileges and/or possible disciplinary action.
