Stillorgan Touch Rugby Festival 2017 Event rules: 1. Basic Rules: a. Teams are made up of 5 players plus up to 3 subs, if a team has a female player, they play with 6. b. Each team receive 5 touches to attempt to score c. After 5 touches the possession is turned over d. This is a strictly non-contact event! 2. Scoring: a. Players score by placing the ball on the ground over the try line b. Male scorers are awarded 1 point while female scorers are awarded 3 points c. Once the ball has been carried into the scoring zone it cannot be passed to another player nor can the carrier move out of the scoring zone d. The scoring team will restart the game with a kick off from the halfway line 3. Restarts: a. The game will start with a team member kicking the ball from the ground in the centre of the field b. The ball may go above shoulder height c. Should the ball be kicked over the opposition try line from a kick off it results in a drop out from the defending teams try line 4. Attacking: a. The attacking team have 5 touches in which to score b. Kicking is allowed but must be below shoulder height c. Following a kick possession must be regained immediately, a second kick is not permitted d. Players are allowed to pirouette in order to evade defenders e. Once touched the player must role the ball through his / her legs in order to continue the attack f. Players are not permitted to leave their feet at any stage of the attack, to do so will result in a deduction of a touch from the team 5. Defending: a. Defenders must be a minimum of 5 metres from roll ball with the exception of the defender who touched to opponent, this player may mark the roll ball b. The marker must not move until the scrum – half has played the ball c. A legal touch is a one-handed touch on any part of the body, clothing and ball. A player must claim a touch by raising a hand and shouting, “Touch”. The referee is the sole judge of the touch and has the discretion to overrule a claim. (Play to the whistle). 6. League points: a. Teams are awarded 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a defeat b. Should 2 teams finish level it will come down to their head to head result c. Should the head to head result be a draw then points difference over the pool stage will decide final placing
