TOWN OF SCRANTON GENERAL ELECTION & FILING NOTICE NOVEMBER 7, 2017 Offices for the General Election will be: Town Council- Two Seats Four Year Terms Registered voters living within the Town Limits of Scranton are eligible to file for office. Interested candidates must file between Noon August 1 through Noon August 15 at Scranton Town Hall, 1818 U.S.Hwy 52 M-F 8:30-5:00 normal business hours. A $50.00 filing fee for Town Council along with a statement of candidacy must be turned in before the Noon August 15 filing deadline. A statement of economic interest (SEI) must be filed online with the South Carolina Ethics Commission by August 15. All candidates must file a Campaign Disclosure form online with the South Carolina Ethics Commission 15 days before Election Day. This is a non-partisan election, and no party affiliation will be placed on the ballot. A person must be registered to vote by October 7, 2017. Polling location for this election will be: Scranton Town Hall The polls will be open on Election Day from 7:00AM to 7:00PM. Registered voters living within the town limits of Scranton are eligible to vote. Voters who qualify for absentee voting may call now 843-665-3094 to request an absentee ballot. The absentee precinct is located at the Voter Registration & Elections office, 219 Third Loop Road, Florence, S.C. 29505. The Canvass and Certification hearing will be November 9 at 10:00AM. Pursuant of South Carolina Election Law 7-13-190, the election is not required to be conducted if fourteen calendar days have elapsed since the filing period has closed and: (a) only one person has filed for the office; and (b) no person has filed a declaration to be a write in candidate with the authority charged by law conducting the election. The candidate who filed for office must be declared the winner and the votes for the election must not be counted or otherwise tabulated.
