The Mission of All Saints’ Torrington To love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind, through vibrant, reverent, and relevant worship. To strive to love our neighbors as ourselves through outreach missions in our community that benefit those in need with respect of the dignity of all persons. To choose to lift those who have fallen, feed those who are hungry, and pray for those who are sick or in distress. With Christ’s help it is our mission to build bridges of connection between Christ and our community and the world.
Each one of you is a part of it In the 1800’s there lived a man by the name of Soren Kierkegaard who was a Danish philosopher, theologian, and religious author. There was a statement that he made in comparing the church with a play. He tells us that in a play there is a director and there are actors and of course there are audience members watching the play. Kierkegaard argues that too often we see church as being similarly set up. The Priest is the Director, the readers and the choir are the actors and the congregation is the audience. This certainly makes sense to me. In fact I have been to several churches where as a person in the congregation I felt as though I was the audience and the bulletin was the program or playbill for the performance. Actually I sometimes feel like a director and part of the acting troupe on Sundays. I wonder as I write this if folks at All Saints feel that way about our church’s worship service as well. Now Kierkegaard goes on to say that maybe we need to think about the way we worship or view our liturgy a little differently. What if we thought of worship, as he suggests, that the congregation are the actors or are on the stage, the Priest, readers and choir are helping with the lines or readings and the real audience is God. Well now that definitely would change the way we look at how we all sit, stand, kneel, sing, read, and preach in church. We are all actors. We are all involved. We are all a part of this church body and we are all most definitely part of the body of Christ. Each with their own movements and duties to make this body a living affirmation of God’s grace and presence in our lives. Each adding to the worship and praise with such glory and magnificence that God, the Audience, will want to give a standing ovation to all of us. As we begin to recognize the revelation of God in our lives this Epiphany season, let us think of this as we approach each church service and really all parts of our lives. We are always the actors and God is always our audience. Truly, He never stops watching and he never stops cheering us on. I would imagine, though, that he is much more impressed when we are involved wholeheartedly and with great Spirit rather than just saying the lines as written or moving stage right or stage left as directed. Give God a reason to give you a standing ovation, in church and in your everyday life. AMEN.

Annual Parish Meeting January 14th Following Church We will review the budget for 2018 as well as electing three people to fill open spots on the Vestry. We will also elect two delegates and one alternate to attend the Diocesan Convention October 5th—7th in Gillette. If you have interest in being a delegate or on the vestry we will be taking nominations from the floor at the meeting. Thank you to everyone who donated poinsettias for our celebration of the birth of Jesus. They are all very beautiful. If you would like to give one of these wonderful poinsettias a new home please feel free to take one after the service on January 7th.

It is time again for the volunteers of Gracie’s Promise to start baking cakes for Valentines Day. We are in need of frosters, packagers, decorators, and dish washers. This year the cake creating marathon will be January 29th-31st from 8:00am till 6:00pm. If you would like to volunteer to help please contact Helen Vogel. If you would like to order some cakes you can see any of the folks with Gracie’s Promise
Mobile Food Pantry This year we are going to try something new for our Mobile Food pantry. We believe that there may be many folks who are working during the day that are still in need of food but are unable to come to the morning food distribution. With this in mind we are going to have our first two food distributions of the year from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on February 5th and March 5th. Volunteers will still be needed for the setup and staging of the food prior to the start of the distribution. We will also need folks to greet the guests and hand out food and then also for take-down and clean-up. We moved the distribution from the Rendezvous center to the Pavilion at the fair grounds last month and found that this works fairly well. We will continue to hold the distributions in the Pavilion. We are currently looking for sponsors for both of these trucks with the cost of each being around $2000. It is my hope that we will have a major sponsor for each truck this year rather than several smaller ones so if you know of a individual, group or organization that might like to sponsor a truck please let me know and I would be happy to go and talk with them. With this in mind I would suggest that All Saints choose a month and begin to collect for that truck. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to help out in any way. Fr. Brian
