Transitioning Out of Homelessness Our Transitional Housing Program is a true example of community collaboration in meeting human needs. The Ecumenical Partnership for Housing (EPH), purchases and maintains 20 fully-furnished apartments for family transitional housing in eleven buildings. Cleaning and upkeep are provided by members of EPH, while The Salvation Army provides intense and holistic case management for these families transitioning from homelessness to home ownership. Residents of the program work with our case managers to establish a personal, strength-based goal plan to include emphasis in the following areas: Financial/Debt reduction, Housing Options, Educational and/or Vocational Attainment, Personal/Emotional Goals and Spirituality. Educational components of the program include: Rent Smart, Nutrition Classes, Assertive Constructive Tactics, Budget Counseling and Parenting. Recently, one of our Transitional Housing families successfully transitioned out of the program. A mother and her two boys came to our Transitional Housing Program four and a half months ago. In that short amount of time, she completed the Assertive Constructive Tactics and Rent Smart classes. Through these classes she learned problem solving and coping mechanisms so she can recognize when old patterns begin to arise and can proactively make good choices and how to be a smart renter. She also attended budget counseling and plans to continue seeing her budget counselor to stay on track in her new place. She is very excited to have safe, stable and long term housing for her family and to not have to think about moving again for a very long time!
