Pier as Groyne Wall

Perpendicular to Bank

Groyne Length (L) L=1/5W

The goal here is to create a place on the river bank, both via a built transportation hub and a graded extension of the earth.

Position C

With the engineering proportions, the Roosevelt Island channel would be severly narrowed.

Typically, the goal of River Groynes is to change the river morphology--slowing down the flow and controlling lateral erosion.

Rosslyn serves as the intersection between Virginia and D.C. Transportation infrastructure defines the urban fabric. Understanding existing and proposed transporation routes give shape to the city’s identity. Olmstead’s complex design for overlapping and adjacent transportation routes in Central Park serves as a model for enjoyable transportation infrastructure. Rosslyn’s location on the Potomac River means all structures & infrastructure respond to the shape and pace of the urban waterways.
