elling half-truths produces the same results as peddling whole lies: skepticism. This standard operating procedure among some in the cosmetics industry is not the standard operating procedure for the cosmeceutical industry. SkinPro, a leader in this young industry, has even raised the bar for honesty. Truth is beauty . . . Half cosmetics, half pharmaceuticals, cosmeceuticals are the luxury alternatives to invasive beauty procedures. He’s a bit of a hybrid himself, with a dual background in business management and computer science. A graduate of St. John’s University, and originally from Minnesota, Schmidt was actually headed to Accenture in Chicago for a job as a consultant just before the tech bubble burst, putting his job — as well as his bank account — on hold. A selfdescribed self-starter, he viewed his predicament as an opportunity to be the first in his family to move out of the Midwest. He settled in south Florida, where he quickly began an Internet marketing consultation service and just as quickly recognized South Beach’s booming health and wellness market. Two years

later, Accenture called to give Schmidt his job back, but it was too late. Schmidt had found a new calling. In 2008, after years of culling professional counsel from his client network of medical skincare professionals and celebrity dermatologists, SkinPro was born. Through a rigorous process of lab studies, cosmetic pharmacist review, and controlled-environment consumer testing at the aptly named Bureau Veritas in New York City, Schmidt ensures that the beauty of SkinPro is in how it lives up to the results of its scientific trials. Schmidt’s credo of candor is self-evident when he says, “I just wish people would stop advertising that you can cure or get rid of wrinkles.” SkinPro was a pioneering voice in the industry, being the first to credit the basis of its anti-wrinkle success to Argireline, a compounded peptide that SkinPro imports from a lab in Barcelona.
