Tryout FAQs How many tryouts do I need to attend to be considered for a team? It is recommended that players attend ALL tryout dates. We understand that this isn’t always possible. If you are only going to attend a single night, please make sure that the coaches at the age group tryout are aware, so that we can properly evaluate you in the limited time that we have. We don’t recommend coming to a different age group tryout to ‘make-up’ for a tryout missed. If possible, we also recommend contacting a TFA Director in advance of the tryouts to come to a training session with a current select team of the same age. What should my son/ daughter bring to tryouts? Please make sure that your player brings an inflated ball, inhalers or other medical needs and water to tryouts. Please make sure that the staff is aware of all medical conditions prior to tryouts. All players should be have on socks and shin guards. All players will be given a tryout tshirt with a number on it. Please make sure that the tryout shirt is worn for all subsequent tryouts. Do I need to go to the registration table? All players must check-in at the registration table for their first tryout night to receive their tryout t-shirt. You do not need to check-in for subsequent tryouts. Just be sure to wear the tryout t-shirt that was given to you the first night. How are teams selected? TFA executive coaching staff determines how many teams we will field and at which level each team will play. Players are rated during tryouts and existing TFA Players are rated throughout the season by our coaching staff and placed according to their ability. How will I be notified of placement? We at TFA strive to notify all tryout participants in a timely manner. With over 1,000 participants this can be a time consuming task. Results will be posted on TFA’s website and you will be notified by a phone call or an email, so make sure that you are frequently checking your email account after the conclusion of the tryout process. If you do not receive notification in 3 days please contact the Director of Coaching for your age group. Email contacts listed below. How do I secure/ accept my position? Once you are placed on a team, Blue Sombrero, our registration system, will generate an email asking you accept/decline your placement. You should log back into your Blue Sombrero
account and accept the offer to play and pay the required deposit. Your position is not officially accepted until a deposit has been placed to hold your position. If your position is not accepted in a timely matter it will be filled by another player. Can my son/ daughter tryout in an older age group? Players that are attempting to tryout “up” will need approval from their respective age group Director of Coaching. Once approval is given, contact Lisa Haussler, Club Administrator,
[email protected], and she can get your child registered for the appropriate age group. Parents with questions are encouraged to reach out to the Director of Coaching for their age group. Is there a separate tryout for goalkeepers? There will not be a separate goalkeeper tryout. Goalkeepers will be identified at the beginning of the tryout session. The modern day goalkeeper is considered the last field player, and our goalkeepers at TFA, are expected to be extremely competent with their feet. The players will be judged on their handling ability during the scrimmages. What if I am unable to tryout due to an injury? We understand that at times players are unable to tryout due to injury. All players still must register for tryouts to be considered for a team. Current TFA players have been assessed for the last 9 months. This feedback will be the determinate in deciding where injured players are placed. Do I attend the fall tryouts if I am in high school? Yes, high school players will be placed on a TFA team for the spring season at the fall tryout. All players that we are unable to place at the May tryout, are encouraged to attend our supplemental tryouts in November. Can I play for TFA in the fall if I am not playing for my high school? Players that are not playing high school in the U15 age group are allowed to play for TFA if they opt out of playing with their high school. Where can I find information about costs/fees? Refer to the Members>Fees page of our website, www.tfacincinnati.com, for details regarding fees for our select programs and payment due dates.
Do I have to buy a new uniform? We will have new jerseys and socks for the 2017-2018 season. As a result, all players will need to purchase new jerseys and socks online with Soccer Village by June 15, 2017. Refer to the Members>Uniforms page of our website for details.
