Their Final Farewell
A word from the coaching staff HANNA SCHMITT: Hanna had immediate credibility the second she stepped on campus. Her Cardinal teammates knew how successful she had been before coming to Saint Mary's and were excited to have her join the Cardinal fastpitch team. She stepped into the role at short stop as a freshman and made an immediate impact at SMU. But for us as coaches — we were even more impressed with her ability to help teach others. She has a strong passion for the sport and is willing to help all of her teammates improve their skills. She has great attention to detail throughout each and every practice and we think she has great potential to be an excellent coach. We are grateful for the four years she spent as a Cardinal and will miss her! We know she will be successful in her next adventure and wish her the best of luck. P.S. When she comes back to future practices we hope she will help teach future Cardinals her perfect footwork on double plays, her amazing talents for Ms. Cardinal and that sometimes a plain ol' jog can be a good warm-up. ANGIE DIERCKS: Angie wasn't sure if she wanted to play college fastpitch softball and we are sure glad that she decided to play for the Cardinals. She has worked her way into the starting lineup by working hard, agreeing to switch positions and quietly going about her business. She isn't a vocal leader but leads well by example and has done a great job showing underclassmen how to make the best out of every playing opportunity. She always wants what is best for the
team and also finds ways to make sure the underclassmen feel appreciated. We will miss her honesty and her dedication to the Cardinals. We look forward to hearing about her future success. P.S. When she comes back to future practices we hope she will help teach future Cardinals how to perform the perfect burpee, how to avoid tripping over your own shoelaces and how to be the scariest witch the Haunted Forrest has ever seen.

Angie Bids Farewell
Angie#15 Diercks Year Senior Position First Base Major Criminal Justice Hometown Red Wing, Minn.
veryone has always said that the four years you spend in college go so fast. Well, over the years, I’ve realized that couldn’t be more true. I have cherished (almost) everyday as a Saint Mary’s softball player and I cannot believe it is already time to bid my farewells and thank everyone who has helped me during my softball career here! I will definitely miss competitive softball next year but my body is very ready for the break. Looking back, I truly can’t imagine my time at Saint Mary’s without being on the team. It has given me so many opportunities to learn life skills and to be a collegiate athlete, something I never imagined myself as. Mom and Dad – Thanks for all your support and never pushing me too hard. Dad, I also appreciate that you didn’t turn into the know-it-all dad and you didn’t try to coach me very often. I know both of your time is stretched thin but I appreciate it when you guys make it to the games you can. It’s always a good feeling to see you two (and Mollie) hanging around the field. I bet you two are excited to gain another kid in the house! Missy – Who knew we would end up going to college together?! Definitely not me but the last two years have been great. Thanks for coming to every game you could be at and cheering me on no matter what the circumstances were. You are the proud little sister that is always behind the backstop and it’s comforting to see you there at every home game. Thanks for everything Miss, I love you! Carolyn – If it weren’t for you, I would probably not be here at all! We have definitely seen many innings together over the past 8 or so years and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Those years have definitely flown by but there are so many memories that will always be around. You never gave up on me and always pushed me and that is something I hope to pass on if I coach someday. Thanks for requesting me to be a rookie with you in 2006; I wouldn’t change it for anything! Miller –You know so much about the game and you have definitely helped me become a better softball player and maybe even a future coach! Thanks for all you do for the team, I know you sacrifice a lot to do small things for us and I appreciate it! Toni and Donny – The work you two do behind the scenes does not go unnoticed and I truly appreciate everything you do for the athletic department. You really help make the collegiate athlete experience at Saint Mary’s a little more special than the next university. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to make sure everything goes smoothly. Eustace – Thanks for being one of my biggest fans and letting me tell you EVERYTHING. I appreciate your patience and enthusiasm during my senior year, it’s almost over…hang in there. To all my non-softball friends (you know who you are) – I have to thank you for all your support and your willingness to listen to whatever I have to say on a given day. Some of you have supported me throughout high school and then on to college and it means a lot to me! It’s always fun wondering what in the world you guys will end up screaming at the next game. Hanna – My fellow senior and roomie.. What a college experience this has been! I definitely See, ANGIE BIDS FAREWELL, on the next page
ANGIE BIDS FAREWELL, from the previous page did not expect to be the only two standing out of a freshman class of about 8 after fall ball. We have had some great times over the years and many memories that will stick with me forever, even if some I would rather not remember! Thanks for being there on the good days and the bad days. Well here’s to the next step in our lives, I hope everything works out for the best! Thanks again for sticking with me through it all, it has made the experience ten times more fun! Juniors – You guys are a ball of fire, holy buckets! Some days I just had to walk away from some of the stuff you kids would say! You definitely give the team their character and it shows on the field. I know next season will be awesome for you guys, you have a very talented group and I hope you showcase it very well next year. Thanks for being the loud bunch since Hanna and I couldn’t quite measure up. Two pieces of advice, first: don’t stress about captain’s practices too much, just take it week by week and do your best with practice and dealing with the RAC and people being late etc and secondly: don’t take your senior year for granted, every day, week, month, and semester flies by and by the time softball season is here, you have no idea where the time went. Sophomores – You all have heart and are a class that I’ve enjoyed getting to know and spending time with. You are all super fast runners, how did that happen?! I have to say, appreciate the pinch runners! Morgan, Amanda and Sam – You guys always know how to cheer me up, even if it’s just a little smile! Thanks for all the chats this year! Nicole – You are definitely one of the nicest people I know and I love your sense of humor. Keep going kid, you are a good softball player and I know you can do it! I
will definitely miss you next year. Freshmen – What a freshmen class! You guys are all so fun and all have your own personalities. It was great getting to know you and I wish I would’ve had more time with you all. As you know, your class adds a ton of talent to our team and I’m excited to see what you accomplish in the future. I know good things will definitely come from you guys! Leah – Thanks for all the chats and being there for me! You have improved greatly over the last year and I know it will just keep on going. Keep working hard, you do a good job with that already! I will miss you lots next year! Hailey – Your “blonde” moments are hilarious; sometimes I can’t stop laughing even though I don’t quite cry while laughing like you do. Buege – I love how positive you have been this whole year, especially with your knee situation. You are very upbeat and you have a very interesting personality that always gives the team a few laughs here and there! I hope recovery is speedy and I know you have a bright future. Keep up the hard work kiddo! As I wrap up my four years here at Saint Mary’s, I feel truly blessed to have been able to spend my time here. It has been a great experience and I wouldn’t change it for anything! Thanks to all my past and present teammates and everyone that has made my years here everything they were.

Hanna Bids Farewell
Hanna#21 Schmitt Year Senior Position Second Base Majors Int’l Business, Spanish Hometown Rosemount, Minn.
ell, here it is, I have read many Senior Salutes and have heard of people talking about them but now it’s my turn. It is truly amazing how time does go by so fast. I am glad I have been able to play the sport I love for the past fourteen years of my life. Although there have been some ups and downs, softball has always been something I looked forward to. Being able to have the opportunity to play competitively in college has helped me develop personally on and off the field. I would first like to say that my family has always been my number one supporters and don’t know what I would do without them. Mom, you have always believed in me from day one and by far you win the number one fan award. I’m pretty sure you have made it (or at least tried) to all of my games no matter how far they were. It was always nice to see you at the games. You have been like my personal paparazzi this past year and I hope you snapped some good pictures! You may not know all the rules and specifics of the game but you still tried to encourage me no matter what. Dad, thanks for teaching me all about the game. You were my coach for many years and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. You knew exactly what to say when I had a bad game and always wanted the best for me. It has been hard these past years not seeing you (and your orange t-shirt) at all of my games but I know you would have liked to have been there. Also, thanks for listening when I needed someone to talk to no matter what the situation. You guys both have done a lot to get me to where I am today. Thanks to both of you for putting up with all of the driving for practices, games and out-of-state tournaments. Our summer vacation (if you can call it that) always consisted of a softball tournament in some other state. Also, thanks for believing in me. To my big bro, Brady, I have always looked up to you and wanted to play ball just like you. Wish you could have made it to a few more games because I always liked knowing that my big brother was there to support me. I enjoyed all those times playing catch in the yard and you trying to teach me things, although I may not have listened to you because I just didn’t want to. Thanks for putting up with me and letting me hang out with you and the boys. I would also like to say thanks to my grandparents for putting miles on their car just to come watch me play. Grandma, you were always there to cheer me on no matter what (and brought treats!). Grandpa, you told me how it was; if I had a bad game you let me know. You have a great understanding for the game and I always wanted to make you proud. I looked forward to seeing you guys in the crowd and I will always be your princess. To my teammates, these past four years have been quite interesting to say the least but they were fun because of you. Past teammates, G, Tara, Bood, Otte, Mondo, Thesing, JJ, Fitz, Herbie, and others, it was enjoyable to play with all of you and you have all made it a memorable experience. We had some good times on and off the field and couldn’t have See, HANNA BIDS FAREWELL, on the next page
HANNA BIDS FAREWELL, from previous page asked for better people to hang out with. Freshmen, Paige, Hailey (Miley), Leah, Buege, Toast, E, you guys are a talented group. Paige, it has been fun being able to play with you for one extra year, keep up the hard work. Leah, please pick on someone your own size and quit stealing people’s crayons, it’s just not nice. Hailey, it’s the climb! Be careful with that d-flex road rule, it’s a tricky one! Sophomores, Morgan, Sam, Bre, Erika, Tug, Amanda, Kristy, Olson, you guys have always been the quiet ones but I have enjoyed playing with you for two seasons. Olson, thanks for the competition these past few years. You are a great player in both hockey and softball, keep your head up! (Go Twins!) Erika, your hair looks a bit slutty…um…sweaty. Juniors, Chewy, Balls, Jo, Kellie, Jaci, Mal, Lou, you guys are all too much to handle but it makes for some good laughs. Chewy, how that name even stuck I have no idea! And I don’t care if you want to sleep but we’re staying up all night so one of these lights is staying on, which one do you want?! Jo, if you don’t have it, you know JAZELLE DOES!! Mal, watch out for those Hot Carls…they’ll get ya! (And glass tables) Jaci, I’m glad you transferred in last year. I have a question though, do we have to roll the ball across the line or can we run it in? Also, I went to this concert in Vegas and I was second row, center stage, etc. ha! And just to clear the air for the juniors, Minnesota is greater than Illinois. Angie, we made it! We survived and are the last two left of how many. I really don’t know what I would have done without you this year. You would think that for us being through the program we knew what we were talking about but sometimes it was easier said than done! Thanks for all of the talks we had about pretty much anything and everything. I remember freshmen year and I don’t think you really said a word but you found your voice this year and I love it! Over the years we have really gotten to know each other and I couldn’t have asked for anything better. This past year has been way too much fun! Thanks for putting up with my craziness at times (or all the time); living at 820 has been entertaining to say the least. We have had a lot of good times on and off the field and I can’t believe our softball careers are coming to an end. Thanks coaches, Miller and C. Bray, for these past four seasons. C. Bray, I’m glad I experienced your 12-passenger van driving skills on our spring trips. They were quite entertaining! Running red lights, birds hitting windshields, giving ‘tude and getting the butt, crossing four lanes of traffic, almost jumping medians to catch an exit, etc., let’s just say that maybe I should have been wearing my seatbelt! Tennie, thanks for joining us this year. Always think positive! I would also like to say thanks to Twinter for all the behind the scenes work you have done in the athletic department. What would all the coaches do without you?! Thanks for letting me come bug you
every once in a while and realizing that I am a good kid! ;) Also, thanks to Donny for making sure the website is up-to-date with scores and stats. It was fun having you tag along with us on our spring trips these past few years. I’m sure you heard a good amount of things that you wish you never did! And with that said, my softball career has come to an end and it’s time to enter the “real world”. It’s official, no more form running and that blue floor! Thanks to everyone I have mentioned and all others I may have left out. Teammates, remember why you play and who you’re playing for. Good luck with however many years you have left and whatever you decide to do. Just remember that it does go by fast so don’t take anything for granted. ¡Hasta luego!
