TUESDAY, 19 JULY, 2016 CRIME STOPPERS’ ICE CAMPAIGN TARGETS LATROBE VALLEY Time is up for drug dealers in the Latrobe Valley with Crime Stoppers calling on local residents to report information about those manufacturing, distributing and trafficking crystal methylamphetamine (‘ice’) and other illicit drugs in their neighbourhoods. Crime Stoppers is launching its two-week intensive Dob in a Dealer campaign in Morwell on Tuesday, 19 July to gather information about local drug dealing activity. The campaign, which is being launched in collaboration with Victoria Police, will target the Latrobe Valley region including the townships of Moe, Morwell and Traralgon. Held in April last year, a previous Dob in a Dealer campaign in Moe and surrounds contributed to a 262 per cent increase in drug related Information Reports to Crime Stoppers. Residents are once again urged to contact Crime Stoppers to confidentially report any information relating to people who may be bringing harmful drugs into the local community. “Whether it’s a family member, a friend, a colleague or acquaintance, sadly so many of us will know someone affected by illicit drugs and the devastating impact they have on individuals, their loved ones, and the wider community,” said Cathy Rhodes, Crime Stoppers Victoria General Manager. “We must all work together to rid our communities of these dangerous substances and through Dob in a Dealer we hope to empower every member of the community to play a part in reducing the manufacture and supply of illicit drugs in their neighbourhoods by reporting what they know to Crime Stoppers. “Any piece of information you provide, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, could assist police in finding those guilty of manufacturing, dealing and supplying illicit drugs in your community and bringing them to justice. “We urge you to pick up the phone and call Crime Stoppers confidentially on 1800 333 000 or report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au anything you know about the manufacture, supply and dealing of drugs in your neighbourhood. “Any information Crime Stoppers receives is handled in utmost confidence. You do not have to give your name or any personal details. There is no caller ID or IP tracing.”

TUESDAY, 19 JULY, 2016 Crime Stoppers’ Dob in a Dealer program is being rolled out across Australia in 2016. In total 17 campaigns will be delivered in Victoria and more than 75 nation-wide. Latrobe Police Service Area Manager, Inspector Dean Thomas, said: “Our front line police are all too familiar with the devastating impacts illicit drugs can have on a person, their family and those in their community. “We need a whole of community approach to tackle the flow of these harmful substances in to our neighbourhoods. The Dob in a Dealer campaign enables the community to report what they know about drug manufacturing, trafficking and dealing entirely confidentially to Crime Stoppers. “The smallest piece of information can make a difference in disrupting organised crime and stopping the harm drugs bring.” Methylamphetamine is a complex issue involving not only law enforcement, but is increasingly identified as a health issue. The campaign is aimed at identifying the manufacturers and distributors of methylamphetamine and other illicit drugs, rather than the end user. Crime Stoppers is aware that some people reporting may have an existing addiction to drugs or may be family members of someone suffering an addiction. Crime Stoppers will refer those who require assistance to local health care agencies where they can discuss treatment options. If you or someone you know is affected by drug use or addiction, please contact support services such as Family Drug Help on 1300 660 068 or Youth Support and Advocacy Service on 1800 014 446.
