Turquoise Trail Charter School After School Program Handbook

Mission Statement Turquoise Trail Charter School After School Program is a child centered environment that provides opportunities for elementary students to achieve, create, play, problem solve and have fun while exploring new skills. Physical games and activities, healthy eating habits, academic successes and relationships building are the foundation of our curriculum and vision for student growth.

Philosophy The Turquoise Trail Charter School After School Program strives to establish a safe, caring environment with a flexible structure that allows for individual and social growth. The After School Program is an extension of the regular school program and provides activities that encourage creativity, physical awareness, healthy eating habits, productive study skills, social relationships, appropriate behavior and a positive self-image. We create an environment where children have access to a variety of indoor and outdoor activities where they have the opportunity to make choices and explore new opportunities for self-awareness. The after school staff are there to assist children with materials and supplies, act as coaches in acquiring new skills, and become role models for cooperation, collaboration, problem solving and respect.

Curriculum Statement The Turquoise Trail Charter School After School Program provides a diverse curriculum to support and develop creativity, physical awareness, healthy eating habits, productive study skills and strong relationships. We choose and develop curriculum to accommodate children’s unique modalities of learning in each of these areas. The program promotes play by providing a wide range of choices in activities, materials and equipment allowing children to explore new interests and develop their skills. We insure that children have unique opportunities to participate in non-competitive, challenging and age-appropriate curriculum and activities, which promote physical and emotional growth.

Positive Behavior & Discipline Plan Turquoise Trail “HIGH FIVE” 1. Be Responsible 2. Be Respectful 3. Follow Directions 4. Keep Hands & Feet to Self 5. Be There! Be Ready! It is expected that all students consistently display respectful, courteous behavior towards other students, staff, adults, guests and visitors in the school and at school related activities off campus. We have a SchoolWide Positive Behavior Support and Discipline Plan, which is designed to move children through stages of behavior interventions that help change negative behaviors, reinforce positive behaviors and prevent any child from having to experience significant discipline referrals and consequences. Please know, however, that we see all children as unique, and work with parent to identify the best discipline and behavioral intervention possible for the child.
