Tuscarawas River Canoe & Kayak Race Saturday, July 7, 2012 Race starts at 10:00 a.m. A race for both recreational paddlers and hard-core racers The course involves a 4-mile section of the Tuscarawas River in Dover, Ohio. It will start and end at the Dover Boat and Ski Club Ramp on Canal St. just upstream of the Wooster Ave. bridge. You will paddle up and down the river making buoy turns. There will be two race courses: a 5-mile loop for any skill level and an 12-mile loop for the more adventurous racer. Proceeds benefit the scholarship fund awarded by the Historic Canal Dover Association. TIME: Races start at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Mandatory race meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. REGISTRATION: Preregistration deadline is June 30, 2012; fee is $20. On-site registration opens at 8:00 a.m. Cost is $25.00 per entrant. Juniors (age 17 and under) are $12. Fee includes t-shirt, awards, and refreshments after the race. Find the form at www.uscanoe.com. RULES: US Canoe Association rules will govern. U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vests must be available to each paddler. All paddlers 14 and under must wear approved PFD. AWARDS: Cool, hand-made, wooden, canoe paddle trophies will be awarded as soon as all the times are in. Meanwhile, relax with your paddling partners at the post-race picnic. MASSAGE TENT: Chair Massages provided by Dover Massotherapy for $1.00 a minute. 5-mile Race Classes Canoe: C-2 Mixed Recreation, C-2 Over & Under (Adult w/child under 16), C-2 Women Recreation, C-1 Woman Kayak: K-1 Man Short (up to 14’6”) K-1 Man Long (over 14’6”) K-1 Woman Short (up to 14’6”) K-1 Woman Long (over 14’6”) 12-mile Race Classes Canoe: C-2 Men Racing, C-2 Mixed Racing, C-2 Men Recreation, C-1 Man Kayak: K-1 Man Racing, K-1 Man Long Recreation (over 14’6”), K-1 Woman Racing, K-1 Woman Long Recreation (over 14’6”) Youth Race This is a .6 mile loop race for boys and girls aged 13 and under, canoe or kayak can be used.
