Translate options allow you to customize certain features for each translation activity to meet your particular writing style and job needs. Case CATalyst remembers the settings, and the settings are retained until you change them. Once you click Apply on a tab in the Translate dialog box, your option settings are retained. To set up your Translate Options from the Translate dialog box, click on Options in the lower left-hand corner.
The best of the Input options Options
Drag/Drop Analysis When selected, Case CATalyst analyzes steno outlines during translation. When no dictionary definition is found for a steno outline, it is checked against identified characters (keys) that you have a tendency to drag or drop when writing a steno outline.
True Stroke Drag/Drop If this option is selected, Case CATalyst will use available SGXR2 file data to help translate what normally would have been an untranslate. This feature is only available with Case CATalyst 13 or higher and a Luminex, Diamante or Wave writer.
Advanced Translate Option: Second Chance Drag/Drop: Yes/No This feature works in conjunction with Translate's Drag/Drop Analysis feature. When this option is set to Yes and the Drag/Drop Analysis option is selected, the Second Chance Drag/Drop feature will apply other steno characters in a dragged/dropped situation to find a match.
Suffix Drag When selected, Case CATalyst translates steno outlines stroked with a dragged letter -G, -S, or -D as a suffix. For example, you have "-D" defined as <Suffix>ed in your dictionary and you do not have the word “stopped” defined in your dictionary. During realtime you write /STOPD. With Suffix Drag active, Case CATalyst translates the word as "stopped." You can customize the Suffix Drag feature, add additional suffixes (e.g. –G, -S, Z), set whether or not adding the suffix should be spell checked and/or allow “tucked” suffixes (one or more dragged letters that do not appear at the end of the steno outline).
Use Smart Parens When selected, this option allows you to use one dictionary definition to create opening and closing parentheses.

Also, if an open parenthesis is written while in one paragraph style, and then steno defined as a new paragraph style (e.g. , , ) is written (not a within an existing paragraph style), a close parenthesis will automatically be added before the new paragraph style.
NOTE:
First, the steno for the parenthesis symbol must be defined correctly and the option selected. The steno for the parenthesis (e.g. /STPH-FPLT) should be defined as the (open parenthesis symbol. There should be no other punctuation or format symbols defined with the symbol.
Conflicts
EZ Choice and/or SecondChoice During Edit, Case CATalyst will record conflict selections in the Conflict Database file and SecondChoice Conflict Database file. When either or both of these options are selected, Case CATalyst uses these database files during translation to resolve conflicts “intelligently.”
Auto Conflict Select this option if you prefer for all conflicts to translate with the first choice selected (unless EZ Choice and/or SecondChoice are also selected, in which case it would default to any available “intelligent” choice based on entries in the conflict database).
NOTE:
While writing realtime, the last conflict in the file (within the Reporter’s Area; which includes approximately the last 128 steno outlines) will now display on the Status Bar, in the lower right-hand corner. Conflicts include any steno or text defined with carets, (such as ^ been ^ Ben or ^ NOTE) whether unresolved, or chosen in translation with EZ Choice or Second Choice or Auto-conflict. TIP
You can add steno entries into your dictionary by copying them from the Realtime dictionary or by using the “insert” command and choosing them from the list of Format symbols. You’ll be able to {Resolve Conflict, Choice 1-9} realtime commands more easily, so if the conflict is not currently displayed in the transcript text, you will not have to move the cursor backward to see the conflict before you can choose it.
Advanced Translate Option: Automatically resolve EZ Choice conflicts: Yes/No Determines whether or not to let Case CATalyst automatically confirm conflicts selected by EZ Choice and add the resolution information to the conflict database.

Numbers
Ignore "and" When active, Case CATalyst ignores the word "and" when it occurs between two numbers. For example, if you write one hundred and 50 and then write a dollar number conversion stroke, the result is $150. If Ignore "and" is not active, the result is one hundred and $50.00.
Ignore Commas When active, Case CATalyst ignores any commas that separate a set of numbers and considers them as a group for the conversion or trigger. For example, if you write 303, 503,143 and then write the social security number conversion stroke, the result is 303-50-3143.
Ignore Periods When active, Case CATalyst ignores any periods that separate a set of numbers and considers them as a group for the conversion or trigger.
Ignore Word Numbers When active, Case CATalyst ignores words that are numbers for the conversion. For example, you write "What is your social security number?" Then you write, "five five five two three four 789". The result is that the number trigger takes no action. If Ignore Word Numbers is not active, the result is 555-23-4789.
Squish Defined Numbers When active, numbers defined in the dictionary automatically translate with no space between them. For example, definitions exist in the dictionary for 1, 2, 3, and 4. You write 1234. With Squished Defined Numbers selected, the result is 1234. If this option is not selected, the result is 1 2 3 4.
Automatic Number Conversion Automatic Number Conversion is a Translate option that converts combinations of numbers and words such as time, dates, addresses and measurements to a specific format based on keywords and rules in the NumberConversion file. The NumberConversion file contains formatting rules based on word and number combinations. The NumberConversion file is located in your System Files case.
With Thousands Separator When selected, Case CATalyst converts digit and words numbers with commas when the numbers are followed by a measurement keyword. For example, one thousand miles converts to 1,000 miles.
Display 10 And Under As Words When selected, Case CATalyst converts digits 1 through 10 to words. For example, if you write "4 boxes," the result is "four boxes". This option only affects numbers 1 through 10 and does not apply to zero.

Otherwise Display As Digits Display all numbers as digits when no keyword or number conversion rule controls the conversion.
Advance Translate Option: Digits with words convert with commas up to: none/hundreds/thousands/millions/billions/trillions This feature is useful if you want numbers defined as digits written along with the words "hundred," "thousand," "million," "billion" or "trillion" to convert to a number with commas when no automatic number keyword is written. For example, "5 billion 2 hundred 50 e-mails" converts to "5,000,000.250" e-mails because "e-mails" is not an automatic number conversion keyword. If you were to write "five billion e-mails," it does not convert to a number with commas. This feature works in conjunction with Automatic Number Conversion. The Automatic Number Conversion option must be selected in Translate options. TIP
In your the Realtime Commands Dictionary, the steno /W*RDZ is defined as {Number Conversion}[*Words]. If a number translates as a digit, or initially translated as a word but automatically converted to a digit, and you would prefer it to be a word, you can fix it immediately, by writing /W*RDZ. You also have a command TPHUPL/TPHUPL defined as {Number Conversion}[nnn,nnn,nnn,nnN]. This command will convert your numbers to digits and include commas; for example, 2 thousand 3 hundred 50 would convert to 2,350.
Additional Advance Translate Options
Analyze numbers in a series - Yes/No Determines whether to have Automatic Number Conversion consider numbers to be in a series if they are separated by one or more spaces, a comma, dash, slash or the words "and, "or," "through," or "to." Yes – will change the numbers into digits No – will leave the numbers as words
Number Triggers convert only when preceding a number: Yes/No Determines when to have Case CATalyst apply Number Triggers Yes – only apply the Number Trigger if a number, either word or digit, is written immediately after the Number Trigger stroke. No – have Number Trigger commands active for approximately three paragraphs after the Number Trigger is written.

Add missing comma after year in {Month} number conversion: Yes/No Yes – insert a comma after the year when writing dates containing a month, day and year. No – prevent Automatic Number Conversion from placing a comma after the year.
NumberConversion.ini File This file is located in your System Files briefcase. Each word in there has a specific rule that applies to it. For example, the word “page” has the rule {DIGITAFTER} and can have an optional rule of {CAPWITHNUM}. If you don’t want the word capped but still want the number to be a digit you keep the main rule, but choose “NO OPTIONS” for the optional rule. You can add, modify or delete entries as necessary.
Case NumberConversion.ini File You now have an option to have a case specific number conversion file. Have you ever needed a slightly different number conversion format for a series of jobs but didn't really want to change your Numberconversion file just for these jobs? You can copy your NumberConversion.ini file to a Case, modify, delete or insert a conversion format, and when an automatic number conversion takes place, it will be using the NumberConversion.ini file in the Case and not the one in the System File case. Let's say you are reporting a series of depositions concerning articles in a city and community environment. When they refer to a city article reference, the number should be a Roman numeral. When referring to a community article, it should be a digit. You copy your Numberconversion file from your System Files folder to your current case and then modify the Numberconversion file in the case to have "City Article" followed by a number convert to a Roman numeral and "Community Article" followed by a number convert to a digit. If there are any future jobs in this case, you won't have to modify the Numberconversion file in this case for these two article conversions formats. If you copy your NumberConversion.ini file to the Case, modify the Case NumberConversion.ini file in the case to convert numbers/words very specific to the job/case. It does not affect number conversions in all your other jobs outside of this case. This feature is only available for regular translate and not CATalyst BCS and captioning files. If you select File, Open, List/Table, NumberConversion, your System Files NumberConversion file displays. When you open the Case NumberConversion file, it opens in Notepad or your default text editor.

To copy your System Files NumberConversion.ini to a Case: 1. Highlight the NumberConversion file in your System Files case.
2. Press Ctrl + c, the Copy dialog box displays with the numberConversion file selected. 3. In the upper, right-hand corner make sure the Keep Case Structure option is deselected. 4. In the user box below, highlight the Case name you want to copy the numberconversion to and click OK. When looking at a Job History file where a numberconversion file was copied to the case, the Translate tab will reflect Files Used versus Dictionary Used and will list the Case numberconversion file along with all the names of the dictionaries used to translate the file. If a file was translated without a case specific numberconversion file, the Translate tab will reflect Dictionaries Used and list all the names of the dictionaries used to translate the file. Realtime Aids
Brief It Check this box to use Brief It, a translation feature that suggests conflict-free brief forms for words and phrases that you write during a realtime job. This option is selected by default.
Live Suggestions Check this box to use Live Suggestions, a translate feature that offers suggestions for untranslates while you are writing. This option is selected by default.
