The U13's started the season in the Chester Cup and registered wins against the RA and Newton Aycliffe but defeats to Sedgefield, Richmond and Barnard Castle meant we didn't progress to finals day. The league campaign started at Norton and this represented the first time a lot of the players had experienced 'proper' cricket rules. Although we won the first game comfortably the transition proved difficult. We did however finish in the top 6 in a tough league which can be viewed as successful overall. However, batters often struggled to build innings and bat with tempo. Running was often tentative and as a result we didn't score enough runs. That said there were some excellent individual performances and the overall approach to batting definitely improved towards the end of the season. They key to the improvement was that players started listening to what coaches and managers were saying and started to work out how to contribute. Bailey Besford scored over 100 runs and Maddy, Oli, James all scored 90+. Our bowling was pretty consistent. We usually picked up early wickets and the spinners often built pressure and took wickets in the middle overs. Tom Park-Bradley took 12 wickets and Maddy, Josh Melling and Jack Riley took 11 each. Our fielding was probably the most disappointing aspect of our game. We dropped a lot of catches and were often not switched on enough and alive to the game situation. The coaches did loads of work though and the players did improve towards the end of the season and again there were excellent individual contributions. Oli performed well behind the stumps taking 6 catches and 10 stumping's. Bailey was also very good in the field as was Maddy and James Bendle. During the season we used 18 players all of which conducted themselves brilliantly and were a credit to the club and their families! Darren and Martin
