(1/10) Setup: "Sharks & Minnows" Divide the ២eld into two 20x20 grids. Place 1 defender in the ២rst playing area, and 2 defenders in the 2nd. The rest of the team is on one side with a ball. Instructions: On "GO", players dribble across in control of the ball. Each time they are able to do that, they receive a point. The defenders attempt to take the ball away, but must remain in their playing area. Variation: Have players do 2 push-ups to get back in after being "out." - Manipulate exercise by subtracting 2nd defender if team is not experiencing enough success. Play for a set number of repetitions so the defenders remain constant as do the attackers. Nobody misses an opportunity to practice. Coaching Points: 1)Head up between touches, "take a touch, take a look." 2)Technique-toe down, laces/outside of foot, knee over ball each touch 3)attck the open space - whatever space is available - do it quickly

1

Setup: "Red Light, Green Light" - Make two lines of cones 30 yards apart. 1 ball per player Instructions: All players start with a ball, side by side, behind one of the lines of cones. The coach is positioned at the other line of cones. The coach yells out, “Green light”, and all players dribble towards the opposite line. When the coach calls out, “Red light”, all players must stop the ball immediately by placing their foot on the ball. If a player doesn’t do this, they are sent back to the starting line. Call out “Green light” again, and players continue dribbling toward the line. The ២rst player across the line is the winner. Variations: Choose a player to take on the role of “tra៨c warden”, to call out “Red light” and “Green light”. Coaching Points: Fun & Body Movement EducationBall Control & Dribbling: Teaching "Step Touch" (every step requires a touch of the ball) is a great starting point. From there build to striding out between touches to attain optimum speed dribbling.

2 Setup: "Red Light, Green Light - Maze Style" - 20x20 yd grid, all players with a ball Instructions: All players start dribbling around the grid like the inside of a maze. The coach is positioned on the outside of thecones. The coach yells out, “Green light”, and all players dribble as quickly as they can in the grid. When the coach calls out, “Red light”, all players must stop the ball immediately by placing their foot on the ball. Call out “Yellow light” and players continue dribbling in a controled manner. This is a great exercise to work on change of direction control and moves, and ២eld awareness. Coaching Points: Fun and Body Movement EducationBall Control - Change of direction movesDribbling - Use the 4 parts of the foot: inside, outside, laces, and sole

Instructions: At the coach’s signal, players on the outside run inside, and try to steal any ball they can, and put it through any one of side goals. The team with the balls tries to keep the balls away from the defenders by dribbling, or passing to teammates. If an attacking player loses his ball, he can try to steal it back before the defender scores. If the defender misses the goal, and the ball goes out of the grid, the attacking team gets the ball back. After the defenders have scored all their goals, have the teams switch roles. Time each team to determine a winner. Variation: Play for a set time while the coach keeps passing in more balls so play continues. Keep score to determine a winning team. Coaching Points: Fun. Dribbling: Find open space. Head on a swivel, looking up when possible. Shielding: place body between ball and opponent.
