The new Student Community Center celebrates the diversity of student life, and is in a prime campus location next to Walker Hall and Shields Library. The SCC will sit proudly on a plaza which embraces existing oak and eucalyptus trees with seating and lighting elements, and makes a long missed connection to the front door of the Shields Library. Particular attention has been paid to tree planting to protect the building from heat build up during the summer. Campus pavements systems, including unit pavers, porous concrete and decomposed granite are used to theme the new plaza and promenade. The collection of these elements provides a place to celebrate the diversity of student life on campus and an opportunity for impromptu community gatherings in a vibrant setting.
