L AKEWOOD UMW MISSIONS

FUNDRAISING

THROUGH THE YEARS…

The Lakewood UMW’s principal fundraiser is the annual Spring UMW Garage sale. By turning “trash” into “treasures”, we have netted over $150,000 in the past five years.   These proceeds are used to support a variety of local and international women mission projects.

Lakewood UMW continues to support a wide range of missions, from local and regional, to national and international causes.   The Lakewood UMW supports our congregation through: Student Ministries Matthew 25:35 Ministry Matzke Elementary Northwest Assistance Ministries Wesley Community Center Boys and Girls Country Habitat for Humanity African Aids Orphans UMCOR Our unit consistently contributes to mission projects such as hygiene kits and school supply bags.  Our Alternative Gifts Market is available throughout the year with special emphasis in December.   These are just a few of the many ways through which UMW actively participates in the global ministries of the Church.

The organized unit of the United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as a whole person through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church. Lakewood United Methodist Women’s unit is part of the largest laywomen’s organization of any major Protestant denomination. Worldwide, UMW has one million members who raise approximately twenty million dollars a year for projects related to women and youth in the U.S. located in more than 100 countries around the world. At Lakewood, we have many different circles, each with its own focus and personality. All members are welcome to participate in the annual General Meeting, Bible and mission studies, the UMW reading program, the annual retreat, and the annual fall membership event.
