E. Sportsmanship Rating (Revised July 2017) The Intramural Sports Program expects all participants, captains, and spectators to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner before, during, and after the completion of a game or event. In order to be eligible for the playoffs, a team must have an overall sportsmanship rating of at least “3.5” at the end of the regular season. The Intramural Sports department reserves the right to immediately remove any team and/or player(s) for sportsmanship actions deemed inappropriate at any time regardless of sportsmanship grade. Following the game, Recreational Services Staff evaluate and issue sportsmanship points to all teams. This rating system applies to all “Participants” which is defined as any team/player(s)/fan(s). The guideline of points is as follows: 5- Excellent Conduct and Sportsmanship - Players cooperate fully with the officials and other team members. The captain calmly converses with officials about rule interpretations and calls. The captain also has full control of his/her teammates. Teams that win by forfeit will receive a “5.”

Tennis Singles Rules - Page 2 4- Good Conduct and Sportsmanship – Team members verbally complain about some decisions made by the officials and/ or show minor dissension, which may or may not merit a yellow card (soccer), unsportsmanlike flag (flag football), technical foul (basketball). Teams receiving multiple yellow cards, unsportsmanlike flags or technical fouls will receive no higher than a “3” rating. 2- Below Average Conduct and Sportsmanship – Teams constantly comment to the officials and/or the opposing team from the field and/or the sidelines. The team captain exhibits little or no control over teammates and/ or himself/herself. A team which receives one red card or ejection can receive no higher than a “2” rating. 1- Poor Conduct and Sportsmanship – Team is completely uncooperative. Captain has no control of teammates, and/ or himself/herself. A team which receives multiple ejections can receive no higher than a “1” rating. 0- Unacceptable Conduct and Sportsmanship --Individuals/teams participated after the consumption of alcohol or drugs. If the game has begun when discovered, the player or players will be immediately removed from the facility, and the game will be forfeited to the opponent. Team members failed to cooperate with Intramural Sports Program staff while performing their duties or falsely represented or withheld any information requested. Any team that receives an "Unacceptable Conduct and Sportsmanship" rating must have their captain meet with the Coordinator for Intramural Sports to determine their team’s eligibility to play their next game. During playoffs, Intramural Sports Staff will determine if a team advances to the next game. If there are any sportsmanship related problems in a game the Intramural Sports Assistant Director and/or Coordinator reserve the right to remove a team. Section Two. STARTING THE GAME 1. START TIME: Any player failing to report and ready to play at game time shall forfeit to their opponents. GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME. It is advised that players show up 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. 2. ID’s: All players must carry their 49er ID Card with them at all times. 3. EQUIPMENT: Matches will be played at the varsity tennis courts across the street from the soccer stadium/track. It is recommended that individuals furnish their own equipment, as there are very few rackets available for checkout. The Intramural Sports Staff may be able to furnish racquets when available. 4.

RAIN OUTS: All matches will be played at the outdoor courts. Players should visit the Intramural Sports Twitter page (UNCC_IM_Sports) and check their emails for notifications from IMLEAGUES to obtain information regarding the status of the games for that day.

5. SPORTSMANSHIP: The Intramural Sports Program expects all participants to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner and reserves the right to immediately remove any team and/or player(s) for sportsmanship actions deemed inappropriate at any time regardless of sportsmanship grade Section Three. SCORING 1. WINNING A GAME: A standard game is scored “Love”-15-30-40-“Game” with the server’s score being announced first, except that if each player has won three points, the score is “Deuce”. After “Deuce”, the score is “Advantage” for the player who wins the next point. If that same player also wins the next point, that player wins the “Game”; if the opposing player wins the next point, the score is again “Deuce”. A player needs to win two consecutive points immediately after “Deuce” to win the “Game”. 2. WINNING THE MATCH: Charlotte Intramural Sports will play an eight (8) game Pro-Set. The first player to win 8 games wins the match. If the score reaches 7-7, a 7-point tiebreaker is played to determine the winner.

Tennis Singles Rules - Page 3 a. TIE-BREAK GAME: One (1) tie-break game shall be played to decide the set. The player who first wins seven (7) points (scored 1, 2, 3, etc.) shall win this set tie-break provided there is a margin of two (2) points over the opponent. Service shall start with one player serving once, the next player serving twice, then back to the first person to serve twice, and then continue from there. Players will switch sides after 6 points. 3. TIME LIMIT: There is a 1-hour time limit for the match. Whoever is winning once the time limit has been reached, will be declared the winner. If it is tie at the time limit, we will finish the set to determine a winner. 4. REPORTING THE SCORE: At the conclusion of the match, the winning player will report the match score to the Intramural Sports Supervisor. Section Four. PLAYING THE GAME 1. ORDER OF SERVICE: The players may select who will serve first by any means. At the end of each standard game, the receiver shall become the server and the server shall become the receiver for the next game. For a tie-break game/set, the original order of service continues. 2. CHANGE OF ENDS: The players shall change ends at the end of the first, third and every subsequent odd game of each set. The players shall also change ends at the end of each set unless the total number of games in that set is even, in which case the players change ends at the end of the first game of the next set. During a tie-break game/set, players shall change ends after every six points. 3. SERVING: Immediately before starting the service motion, the server shall stand at rest with both feet behind (i.e. further from the net than) the baseline and within the imaginary extensions of the center mark and the sideline. When serving in a standard game, the server shall stand behind alternate halves of the court, starting from the right half of the court in every game. The service shall pass over the net and hit the service court diagonally opposite, before the receiver returns it. In a tie-break game/set, the service shall be served from behind alternate halves of the court, with the first service from the right half of the court. EXAMPLE: During the first point of a tie-break game/set, A serves from the right side of the court. B then serves twice (left side first, then right side). A then serves twice (left side first, then right side). This pattern continues until the tie-break game/set is won. 4. FOOT FAULT: During the service motion, the server shall not: a. Change position by walking or running, although slight movements of the feet are permitted; or b. Touch the baseline or the court with either foot; or c. Touch the area outside the imaginary extension of the sideline with either foot; or d. Touch the imaginary extension of the centre mark with either foot. If the server breaks this rule it is a “Foot Fault”. 5. SERVICE FAULT: The service is a fault if: a. The server breaks rules 3 or 4 above; or b. The server misses the ball when trying to hit it; or c. The ball served touches a permanent fixture, singles stick or net post before it hits the ground; or d. The ball served touches the server or server’s partner, or anything the server or server’s partner is wearing or carrying. 6. SECOND SERVE: If the first service is a fault, the server shall serve again without delay from behind the same half of the court from which that fault was served, unless the service was from the wrong half. 7. LET SERVE: The service is a let if: a. The ball served touches the net, strap or band, and is otherwise good; or, after touching the net, strap or band, touches the receiver or the receiver’s partner or anything they wear or carry before hitting the ground; or b. The ball is served when the receiver is not ready. In the case of a service let, that particular service shall not count, and the server shall serve again, but a service let does not cancel a previous fault. In all cases when a let is called, except when a service let is called on a second service, the whole point shall be replayed.

Tennis Singles Rules - Page 4 8. LOSING A POINT: The point is lost if: a. The player serves two consecutive faults; or b. The player does not return the ball in play before it bounces twice consecutively; or c. The player returns the ball in play so that it hits the ground, or before it bounces, an object, outside the correct court; or d. The player returns the ball in play so that, before it bounces, it hits a permanent fixture; or e. The receiver returns the service before it bounces; or f. The player deliberately carries or catches the ball in play on the racket or deliberately touches it with the racket more a. than once; or g. The player or the racket, whether in the player’s hand or not, or anything which the player is wearing or carrying touches a. the net, net posts/singles sticks, cord or metal cable, strap or band, or the opponent’s court at any time while the ball is in b. play; or h. The player hits the ball before it has passed the net; or i. The ball in play touches the player or anything that the player is wearing or carrying, except the racket; or j. The ball in play touches the racket when the player is not holding it; or k. The player deliberately and materially changes the shape of the racket when the ball is in play; or 9. HINDRANCE: If a player is hindered in playing the point by a deliberate act of the opponent, the player shall win the point. However, the point shall be replayed if a player is hindered in playing the point by either an unintentional act of the opponent, or something outside the player’s own control (not including a permanent fixture)
