The Prelude
On April 18, 1934, our Heavenly Father blessed us with a man by the name of Matthew C. “M.C.” Wilson. He was a husband, father, brother, solider and the King of our lives. He enjoyed a full life and was able to touch the lives of many all across the world by serving in the United States Army as a Master Sergeant. Through the Army, he was able to show his family the world and to teach us to fear no MAN. His favorite quote was, “We will not be defeated.” He became a covenant member of Zion Canaan Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Bobby L. Smith, Sr. Our father showed us how a true man is supposed to love his wife and his family. He was married to our mother, Rosie Lee Wilson; and we witnessed to 56 years of true love. Their union was blessed with five beautiful children. He was predeceased by his father, Henry Wilson; his mother who passed during his birth, Maggie Wilson; his mother that loved and raised him, Estella Wilson; his wife, Rosie L. Wilson; and his brother, Henry George Wilson, Jr. Left to carry on his legacy and cherish precious memories are his children: Desiré (Grady) Gibbons, Sarah (Vincent Jewell) Wilson, Georgiann (Douglass Jr.) Lyles, Matthew C. Wilson, Jr. and Rosemary Brooks; eight grandchildren: Danny (Courtnee) Wilson, Matthew (Vanessa) McDonald, Eric Cyrs, Erica Cyrs, Caleesha Wilson, Clevon Wilson, Nyia Wilson and Ezra Bright; and six great-grandchildren, Destiny Cyrs, Shane Wilson, Bailey McDonald, Austin Wilson, Avah Wilson and Olivia Wilson.
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free I’m following the path God has laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, or play, I found the peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much, My family, good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch, Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undo grief. Lift up your heart and peace to thee God wanted me now; He set me free.
