UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, LOS ANGELES ATHLETICS COMPLIANCE OFFICE STUDENT-ATHLETE MEALS Incidental to Participation    

May only be provided by the Institution. May be provided on- or off-campus. Does not count as an occasional meal. May not provide cash in lieu of actual meal.

 

Home Competition May provide meals (no cash) beginning the evening before until the time of release. May provide a post-game meal OR cash in lieu of post-game meal (may not exceed $15); not both Away-from-Home Competition May provide either of the following options (during the entire trip )but not both:

Option #1 Actual Meals or Per Diem (3 per day). Per Diem is identical for all athletes; no double-dipping. Pre-Game or Post-Game Meal. Cash (may not exceed $15) in lieu of Post-Game Meal.

Option #2 Actual meals at discretion from reporting (e.g., team travel departure) until return to campus. Meal OR Cash (may not exceed $15) upon release.

Vacation Periods Room and board may be provided to S-As remaining on-campus during an official vacation period (e.g., fall break) when they are required to participate in practice or competition.  Actual meals or Per Diem (3 per day).  Per diem is identical for all S-As; no double-dipping.  An additional meal (but not cash) may be provided.  S-As living at home (e.g., with local family/guardian) may not receive room and board expenses.  S-As returning to campus following season-ending competition (e.g., during summer vacation period) may receive room and board for not more than 48-hours upon their return. Preseason Practice Room and board may be provided to S-As reporting for practice prior to the start of the academic year (e.g., fall sports), including incoming freshmen/transfers provided they’ve been accepted for admission.  Actual meals or Per Diem (3 per day).  An additional meal (but not cash) may be provided. 

Training Table Actual meal (one per day during the academic year).

 

Occasional Meals Can be provided at any time. Prior approval required for non-athletic department staff Additional Meal Legislation

May provide snacks at any time. May provide nutritional supplements at any time (e.g., Powerade, energy bars). May provide meals during institutional committee service (e.g., SAAC). Family Members of Student-Athletes An institution may provide:  Food & drink to the family (e.g., parents, legal guardians, relatives) of a student-athlete during an educational meeting or celebratory event and on occasion for other reasons. o Must charge for non-relatives (e.g., friends, boyfriends, girlfriends).  A complimentary admission to an institutional awards banquet anytime for the family members of a student-athlete being honored at the banquet. Male Practice Players  May receive meals incidental to participation.  May receive an occasional meal.  May not receive meals/per diem or travel expenses in conjunction with home or away-from-home competitions.  May not receive room or board expenses during vacation or preseason periods.
