Circulation the greatest volume of pedestrian traffic occurs from the west and the south. the kiosk offers setbacks from these routes and offers alternate passages of circulation through added terracing

Terracing
subtle landscaping has been added to improve circulation and ease the dissuasively steep ascent from the mall. terracing is added at the the landings of the adjacent stair and gradating back to the slope hill to provide additional circulatory routes

A New Tree on the Mall
the iconic ordering counter is perched upon a countertop stilted above an existing brick wall. the sculpture is arboreal in its aesthetic, reflecting but not replicating the allée of trees framing the mall. heights of the ‘branches’ are staggered, shallower over the queueing area and exaggerated over the mallside terraces. the fingers of the branch are splayed to imply a greater connection to the mall, reaching over the green to symbolically attach itself to the university’s pristine backyard.

How Would You Like Your Coffee? GREEN following the precedent of the succesful reusable food carry out system currently in place in campus dining halls, the kiosk features a similar sustainable strategy. customers have the option of purchasing a reusable coffee thermos that can be deposited on this artificial grass dish drainer. when they return for their next cup they can simply exchange a token for a clean thermos and receive coffee at discounted prices. the system provides a clear visual connection to the mall and serves as a reminder of the importance of nature and our responsibilites as custodians of the Earth
