Dear Alumnus, As the 2011-2012 academic year draws to a close, we celebrate the many notable academic achievements of our alumni, faculty, and students. It’s been a tremendous year, and I am pleased to recognize members of our community for their accomplishments. Tyler Cowen, BS Economics '83, received the CHSS Distinguished Alumni Award. Alexandra Gant, BA History '97, received the Distinguished Lambda Alumni Award. Major James Ogletree, BA History ’97, MS Telecommunications ’04, received the Volgenau School of Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award. Lorrie Sinclair, BA Government and International Politics ’93, received the Distinguished Black Alumni Award. Jessica Zucal (at right), BA Integrative Studies ’01, MS New Professional Studies ’09, received the New Century College Distinguished Alumni Award.

Outstanding Faculty The following faculty members received Mason’s 2012 Teaching Excellence Award, which recognizes their excellent, dedicated, and innovative work in the field of teaching: 

Louise P. Wood Graduate Scholarship, one of the four Alumni Association Scholarship Awards. The John C. and Louise P. Wood Graduate Scholarship recognizes a graduate student who shows unusual motivation and ability in pursuit of education, and who has contributed to the development and welfare of the university, the community or both.
