Using Apps to Build Core Vocabulary and Create Meaningful Exchanges for Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder

INTRODUCTION This webinar will demonstrate strategies that use apps and technology to build speech, language, functional communication, literacy, and quality of life for students on the autism spectrum by beginning with the end in mind. By focusing on high-frequency, core vocabulary combined with literacy skills and a vision of the end results, SLPs and students can build lifelong communication skills. LEARNING OUTCOMES You will be able to:  identify apps that promote communication, literacy, speech production, language, concept development, and independence  describe the basic operation of an iDevice and iOS accessibility features  implement strategies to teach core vocabulary

EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE It is the position of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association that audiologists and speechlanguage pathologists incorporate the principles of evidence-based practice in clinical decision making to provide high-quality clinical care. The term evidence-based practice refers to an approach in which current, high-quality research evidence is integrated with practitioner expertise and client preferences and values into the process of making clinical decisions.
