[email protected] UT SYSTEM BOARD OF REGENTS BOW TO WILL OF LEGISLATURE AUSTIN—In response to growing public outrage and pressure from the Texas Legislature, the UT System Board of Regents today voted to disclose emails and other documents requested by the Texas Legislature, as well as cancel a planned outside review of the UT School of Law Foundation. In response to those votes, the Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education issued the following statement: "Today's votes by the UT System Board of Regents were a win for transparency and good governance. We are pleased the Board appears to have reversed course on two key issues, bowing to the will of the elected representatives of the people of Texas. By putting an end to a costly and unnecessary outside investigation, and agreeing to turn over requested documents to the Legislature, they have publicly acknowledged their errors, and will hopefully move forward in a spirit of good faith and collaboration-rather than micromanagement and distrust." About the Coalition The Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education was launched in the summer of 2011 by a group of concerned citizens who believe strongly in the power of higher education to transform lives, build our economy and shape Texas’ future. Formed in response to a growing concern over recommendations being floated that could have long-term damaging effects on our institutions of higher learning, the Coalition hopes to advance a thoughtful, constructive and transparent dialogue around higher education in Texas, seeking to improve the quality educational opportunities for all Texans.
