On June 17, 2010, the University of Utah became the 12th member of the Pacific-10 Conference. Utah and Colorado, which accepted an invitation to join the Pac-10 the week prior, will begin play in the new Pac-12 in the fall of 2011. The Utes and Buffaloes are the conference’s first new members since 1978.

THE PAC-12 IN 2011 Arizona made 25-consecutive NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament appearances to rank behind only North Carolina (27 straight).
Arizona State ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division I All-Americans over the past six years.
Cal athletes have won more than 100 Olympic medals.
Colorado has captured 21 NCAA Championships, including 16 in skiing and the 1994 football championship.
Oregon won the first NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship in 1939 and owns 16 NCAA titles in men’s and women’s cross country and track and field.
Oregon State’s baseball team won back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2006 and 2007.
Stanford has won more NCAA individual championships than any school in the nation with 431. The Cardinal women’s basketball team was the 2010 NCAA Runner-up.
UCLA has the most NCAA team championships of any school in the nation with 106 and the most Olympic medalists since 1976.
USC is second in the nation in NCAA team championships with 92 and first in men’s team titles (78).
Utah is only school ever to produce the No. 1 overall draft pick in the NFL and NBA in the same year (2005). Teams have won 20 NCAA Championships.
Washington’s men’s rowing team has won 14 national titles, while the women’s team owns 10 NCAA championships.
Washington State won a national men’s basketball championship in 1917.

IN MEMORIAM CHRIS TUNIS “Voice of Utah Women’s Basketball” Longtime Utah women’s basketball play-by-play announcer Chris Tunis passed away on Aug. 23, 2010, from complications of cancer. He was 54. Tunis also hosted the postgame call-in show for Utah football games. He worked in broadcasting in Salt Lake City for nearly 30 years and was a seven-time Utah Broadcaster of the Year. Tunis is survived by his wife Julie and daughter Jacqueline. The women’s basketball team will honor Tunis throughout the season with a uniform patch reading ‘CT.’

NCAA TOURNAMENTS
NCAA APPEARANCES The Utah women have made 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including seven in the last 11 years. The Utes advanced to the second round for the first time in 1997 and made history in 2001 with a Sweet 16 appearance. Their best showing was in 2006, going to the Elite Eight. Utah is 9-15 overall in the tournament.

KIM SMITH Kim Smith is one of the most decorated players in Canadian National Team history. She has been with the team for eight years (2001-06, 2009-10) and most recently participated with Canada at the 2010 FIBA World Championships, finishing 12th. Smith led Canada with 13.1 points per game while averaging 4.8 rebounds per game. She participated in back-to-back World Championships with Canada, also playing in the 2006 World Championships. She scored 78 points in eight games with one double-double and two 18-point performances in 2006, with the Canadians placing 10th. Other highlights include a third-place finish in the 2003 FIBA Americas Olympic Qualification Tournament and a third-place run at the 2009 FIBA Americas Tournament.
SHONA THORBURN A member of the Canadian Senior Women’s National Team from 2003-04. She competed at the FIBA Americas Olympic Qualification Tournament in 2003, where Canada finished third. Thorburn was also in the 2003 Pan American Games.

MICHELLE PLOUFFE
Helped lead Canada to a ninth-place finish at the 2005 FIBA U19 World Championships. She was also with the Junior National Team in the 2004 L’International de Basketball de Quebec and an exhibition series in France.
Served as a team captain for Canada’s fourth-place run at the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championships, held in Bankok, Thailand. She averaged 8.3 points and 8.1 rebounds during the tournament. Wicijowski was also on the 2008 team that placed second at the FIBA Americas U18 Championships
Michelle Plouffe ranked among the tournament leaders at the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship with 14.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, as Canada earned a bronze medal. She also competed at the 2009 FIBA World U19 Championship, averaging six points per game in nine games with a high of 14 points against Japan.
