Valley Ridge Academy Cheerleading VRA Cheerleading is entering its third year. Our team performs at all football games, home basketball games, participates in community service, school events, and fundraisers throughout the year. Cheerleaders are ambassadors of our school and are expected to follow all school rules and behave appropriately at all times. We are looking for mature, responsible, spirited students that can assume a leadership position in representing our school. You must be able to show respect, courtesy, tolerance, self-control and sportsmanship. Good grades, positive attitude, enthusiasm, teamwork and a healthy lifestyle are a must! VRA Cheerleading Tryouts – Tentatively April 30 – May 3 To tryout, you must register at www.sjmsaa.com by March 30 and attend a mandatory parents only meeting on March 22 at 5:30PM at The Loop Pizza Grill -101 Marketside Avenue, Ponte Vedra, FL 32081. Please order something and be ready to start by 6:00PM. A non-refundable try-out fee of $25 is due at the time of registration. April 30 & May 1and 2, we will hold a mandatory clinic to teach all of the required elements for tryouts. These clinics will be held in the gym at VRA from 3:30 – 5:30. Girls should wear shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes and high ponytails. Tryouts will be May 3, starting at 4:00PM. Please be ready to go by 3:45. Girls should wear black shorts, white t-shirt or tank top, tennis shoes or cheer shoes, and a high ponytail (no hair in your eyes). IMPORTANT DATES: Mandatory Parent Meeting: Thursday 3/22 @ 5:30PM The Loop Pizza Grill - Nocatee Clinic/Tryouts: Monday, April 30 – Thursday, May 3 @ VRA Gym (see times above) Mandatory Uniform Fitting: Wednesday, May 9 (Time TBD) at 106 Austin Park Ave. Payments Due: $25 paid at registration, $375 due immediately upon notice of making the team. Uniform Information: We will order our uniforms from Varsity. We will have the same uniforms as last year, with a couple of minor changes to accessories. Everyone will be fitted on Wednesday, May 9 (Awaiting time confirmation) at 106 Austin Park Ave. At that time, you may have a uniform to sell or may decide to buy a skirt or top from someone who has outgrown theirs. Uniform includes top, skirt, cheer shoes, long sleeve body liner, bloomers, hair bow, poms, and jacket. More information about costs will be available by 3/22. Fall Practices: Our practice days in the fall will be Tuesdays @VRA (pending approval) from 3:00 – 4:30 and Thursdays @ CFA from 3:30 – 4:30. (This could change to 3:30 – 5:30). If additional practice days need to be added, we will add Mondays @VRA from 3:00 – 4:30. Central Florida Athletics Clinic: In the fall, cheerleaders will be required to enroll and participate in a weekly clinic at CFA Cheer. We, currently, have a 1 hour blocked on Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30. Ideally, they will be able to make it a 2-hour block. The cost of CFA Clinic is the cheerleader’s responsibility. We will offer fundraiser events to help cut costs, if needed. More information about CFA will be available by 4/30, when we start Tryout Clinics. Fall Football: Fall football games will be at 5:00PM or 7:00PM on Wednesdays. Some games may fall on Thursdays. As soon as the schedule is out, I will share it. Transportation is not provided to games. We encourage moms to carpool and our Team Mom will help coordinate. Head to Head: The plan is to bring back Head to Head. In November/December, we will perform and be judged at the district’s Head to Head Showcase. Dates, Location, Times, TBA. Sponsorships: If you have a business or work for a company that would like to make a donation to our team, please contact Coach Anzualda. Sponsorships are a great way to help the team cut costs. Team Mom Facebook: This year, we started a closed Team Mom Facebook and it was very successful in helping everyone stay on top of things. We will do the same thing this year and encourage everyone to join. It is also a good place to post pictures from games and competitions to share with the team. I am super excited about a new year of VRA Cheer! Getting to know the girls and working so closely with them throughout the season is fun and rewarding. It is great to see how much they grow and improve! My personal goal is to help each girl reach her personal potential in cheer, but also in her social, emotional, and academic life.
